insurance?

Post by ppre89 »

Hey all. Just had a quote off of e-car insurance 3rd party fire and theft, £1600, which is not to bad as my first car (fiesta) was 1500 and i got by fine, but does anyone know of insurance companies that will give me a discount for being part of IMOC, or ones that are generally cheap bearing in mind im only 18

Sounds like a fair price for an 18 year old. Unfortunately my company cannot help you until you are 19 with 2 years driving experience. Try Houghtons who are the club insurer :thumleft:

Fir an 18 year old, what a fantastic car... great choce buddy :thumleft: just watch that back end!

Try adrian flux

Give them a call, they should be able to sort you out. Plus they do discount.

Or go the other route, try classic car insurance on a limited mileage policy, they should insure you as your young, in fact classic car insurance was also set up to aid younger people to gather an interest in classic cars :thumleft: , Jinxy

Really?
I'm sure I'd heard most places wouldn't touch you with classic until you were 25.

Elephant.co.uk was the cheapest I found (23 and just passed). It was about £700 for 10 months cover (got 1 years ncb at the end of the 10 months) - my MR2 has non-standard wheels, filters and exhaust which didn't help.

Don't suppose the customer service is going to be up to much if I ever do actually need to make a claim, but they send me the insurance paperwork on time to buy my road tax and that's really all i've had to ask of them so far (touch wood!).

(edit: also not found anywhere that would offer classic car insurace to under 25. am looking to my 25th in October!)

Another vote for admiral/elephant. They have always given me good prices, and I had a MR2 insured with elephant at 21 for £400 Fully Comp. Unfortunately you will take a bit of a reaming at age 18 though, especially as these are group 13 cars, not as low as the 1.6 might lead you to believe!

Use all the online price comparison sites, and then call and haggle to get the price down as much as possible. For the extra cost Fully Comp is probably worth it, to protect your investment a bit and also for the extras it gets you, like windscreen cover and (possibly but age dependant) an extention to drive other cars.

Im also 18 and have just insured my MR2 for 1690, im paying 16% more so that i can pay it monthly :( Im with Kwikfit insurance, i get 10% off stuff there and i also get a free MOT (which im going to have to travel about 40 miles away to use #-o ).

I searched so many companies and alot of them would not touch me, something about it being one of the highest risk cars for my age  So i suppose the price is not too bad. I will get my premium doubled if i even think about changing anything on the car though, even wheels [-(

Asfar as classic policies are concerned, all the ones i phoned said i had to be atleast 25 which seems abit strange

Classic car insurance is v.cheap (mine is £120 a year fully comp... but then again I'm old!!) BUT the policy generates no no claims bonus.

As already mention Adrian Flux are probably going to offer you the best quote.... BTW, great 1st car choice!!! :thumleft:

Do a search for Lancaster Insurance.

Defo try Footman James.

Limited mileage policy on my SC conversion = £230 for the year 8)

I got my first mk1 insured by them when I was 25 for just over £200, that was only a couple of years ago.

Good choice of car mate!

Its very hard to say, there are a lot of variables with insurance quoting. Please PM me your details and I can arrange a call back to go through a quote :thumleft:
