The emissions based bands don't apply to our cars, only to cars produced after 2001. Tax for N/As and Turbos will all be the same, at £185 per year.

Here's something to make you feel a bit better about that; a friend has a 1.25 MK5 Fiesta. It falls into the category that pays £175 per year tax ;)

Topic has been covered loads in the last 2 months

But yeah anything pre 2001 is not affected in a silly way. Its done on engine size for our cars. 2000cc is still considered a small lump so i don't think we will see past £200 per annum :thumleft:

I think the laws are totally ridiculous, if you think about it older cars are very likely to be pushing out a lot more fumes than modern cars due to their older and more tired engines as well as older technology.

My mate has an '03 Astra GSI and will be paying £300 a year whereas I'll only be paying £185 for my '94 MR2 turbo. Don't get me wrong I'm certainly not complaining but I think that in fairness I should be paying more than my mate as my car is bound to be putting out more fumes, oh and it's a 2-seater. There's just no logic.

Anyway, doesn't anyone else think that drivers should be taxed purely on mileage? That would make things much fairer surely.

makes me want to keep my two old cars a bit longer only living on one incom, trying to find two lots of rd tax hits me hard no way would i be able to find the money and my 2 would have to go, her indoors drives our bus (the galaxy) which transports 4 kids and a dog around always has people in it one way or another and people who have the mpv's get hit hard, yet we have lots of passengers in ours i think thats a bit unfair still very happy with whats said dont have to worry just yet then :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Why not tax all cars based on the emissions readings measured at the MOT? A new car badly maintained will produce more emissions than an older car thats well looked after!
