You want Condemned 1 before Condemned 2 IMO.

It's dark, it's scary, it's ultra violent.

There's not many guns involved, most of it is using pipes and sticks to beat bad guys to death.
The new one has used even more of this.

There's plenty of video clips of the game(s) about.

i agree that you need to play the first one if you can. ive played it again recently and its still good for a 2 year old game.

as matt says, you use pipes, fire axes just about anything you can pick up to fight with but there is the odd gun.

and you also have to collect clues at crime scenes using the scanners and uv lights they give ya.

condemned 2 is meant to have a much improved melee system but the first one was great anyway.
