[Mk2] [Turbo] Does a cv boot for a 3S-GE fit a 3S-GTE?

Post by BaliD »

I have a 1992 MR2 Turbo and at my MOT i was told that my rear inner cv boot was torn so i want to replace it.
I spoke to toyota and laughed as they told my it would cost nearly £60  for a new one :(

I have found a very reasonably priced replacement at www.camskill.co.uk (just £10) however it is for the 3S-GE and not the 3S-GTE :?

I spoke to camskill; they said the toyota part number is different for the two engines so they didn't know if it would fit. My car has the E135 gear box, does the 3S-GE also have the E135 gear box? If so i am reckoning it will fit

Any help would be appreciated?!

the cv's on the n/a gearbox are a lot smaller
they have an S54 gearbox iirc, we have an E153 in the turbo's .

The best thing to do if you don't want to pay £60 is measure the diameter of the 2 ends of the cv boot and go to a motor factors there is bound to be a different car whcih uses similar sized cv boots

a motor factor will have an equivalent on their system from 'BluePrint' - but if you can just quote a size then there will be a generic that will be far cheaper...

In my experience, as soon as a motor factor hear the words 'its an import' they either say 'no can do' or grab the blueprint ADL book and quote from that (Essentially a cross reference of generics for imports) - Blueprint really has sewn up the import spares market, and it pays to know what is common import to UK spec!

Thanks for your help guys.

Both Rogue and Camskill said they could sort out a replacement if I measured up the old one on the car, however not even Rogue could automatically tell which one it was without measurements so im guessing it has somehow been missed off the Blueprints list.

I wasn't able to get access to the car until now when I want to do the work on it so couldn't measure up in advance and therefore bit the bullett and bought the Toyota one. The suppliers who said they would find an alternative (from the measurements) were only £15 cheaper and I felt for £15 it was worth knowing it was the right one.
