X-Box 360 Screen Resolutions

Hi All,

I'm in the process of selecting a new monitor for my computer and I want one that will give me the best possible image using the HD-15 (VGA) cable from the XBox360. I'm looking at around 22" and all of the panels seem to support 1680x1050. The XBox360 supports the following:

640x480 (4:3)
848x480 (16:9)
1024x768 (4:3)
1280x720 (16:9) - 720p
1280x768 (16:10)
1280x1024 (5:4)
1360x768 (16:9)

I guess the closest match will be 1280x768 since this is the correct aspect ratio. Is anyone else using this setup and if so, how does it look?

1280x768 isn't the correct aspect ratio - widescreen is 16x9. Most panels will support 1360x768 (or 1366x768 some list it as) as this is a defined HD resolution - 720p. Probably your best bet too, as you can't reliably get any higher HD resolution out of good old analogue VGA. Next one up is 1080i/p which I seem to remember the xbox can't do without an HDMI cable anyway, for which you need a 360 elite.

1680 x 1050 is a 16:10 aspect ratio though isn't it?

That's not a resolution any of your games will support though cause it's not an HD res! I have now edited my first reply twice cause I keep finding mistakes in it too
