Central locking

Post by GAZ »

Just bought an GTS import M reg and my central locking isn't working. The door lock button on drivers side locks both doors fine when pressed. But when you try and lock both doors from drivers side with key only drivers side locks.

Did these models come the central locking as std. Is there a simple solution to this. :?

Thanks

Yeah, this is a common problem. I've got this myself. apparently you need a new central locking relay / switch in the door. I'm trying to find out which one...anyone help?

I had the same problem with my old 2
it was the sensor at the back of the lock which had broken, basically it clips on to the back of the barrel to sense when you turn the key, have a look at that first before you go out replace something else
hope this helps guys

Yep, had the same issue on my 91 NA. Just locked the door from the inside switch instead.

He is what I am looking at:

Valentino, which part where you reffering to that clips in? I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.

**EDIT** I have just realised that it could be this on the passenger side and not the drivers side which I have taken the picture of!!!!! Will report back.... :)

Just checked and the passenger side looks exactly like the drivers side. Can't see anything loose, and it has the same looking white clip thing with the wires coming out of it.

What other testing can I carry out to find out what is wrong?

I'm thinking it's the bit with the wires sticking out of it that's bust. Does it lock both doors if you use the key in the passenger door?

The 3 wires are the signals to lock/unlock the doors. You may find the key in the drivers door will UNlock but not lock the doors.

i had the same problem with mine. it was the white switch with the 3 wires coming from it. i undid the two screws then pulled the switch apart-it is in two halves. i dropped some fresh solder on all the contacts that appeared worn and reassembled. it has been fine since.

Excellent, thanks for the replies.

Will check those few things tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

If I do manage to fix it I will do a newbies HOWTO guide as this might really help some people.

Hi,

Did you get any further with this? I've got the exact same symptoms and want to fix mine.

Thanks
