Mk1 MR2 - 1986 Red Sunroof model now reduced £750

Post by The TVIS Kid »

Up for sale is my 1986 mk1a. I am selling this car due to buying a mk2 t-bar for the summer. The description is as follows:

Bodywork - Overall this is in good condition. The guy who owned the car before me spent a fair amount getting the car fixed up, there is a receipt for around £1000 of bodywork including new arches. This was done around 2005. The arches are still in good condition except for two parts of rust that have started to come through. One is on the drivers side rear arch and the other is on the passenger front wing. Both are shown in the pics below. The paint work is also in good condition and is not pink as shown in the pics, unfortunately that's just what my camera does. The drivers side A pillar also has some rust but is not yet a hole (shown on a pic) but the other side is fine (also shown). Obviously there s the odd stone chip too.

Mechanical - The car has 176K on the clock but it has had a replacement engine fitted at 124K. The engine was a low mileage Japanese import one from a mk1b from fensport. The receipt says they typically have less than 50K Miles on them so i would estimate the mileage on this engine to be around 100K. It had a cambelt changed at 167K. It does not burn any oil or use any water. The suspension has been changed to Koni adjustable (see pic) and gives quite a firm ride. The only other mod is a K&N induction kit. I have also just fitted a new Toyota exhaust (both the sections). It was serviced when i bought it at 169K and i have changed the plugs and oil at 174K. There are stacks of receipts for parts that have been changed over its life such as the alternator back in 2005. The gearbox is fine with no 5th gear pop out and no problem with the synchro meshes.

Interior - The seats are fine and electrics windows and mirrors both work. There is a red mark on the carpet where some polish got split but car mats cover this up. The gear gaiter is also worn.

Problems with the car - OK, as with all 22 year old cars there are some little niggles. i have been very picky and listed everything i can think of.

1 - The tracking needs doing - i put this off as i was going to fit some alloys.
2 - there is a chip in the windscreen. It is not in the drivers view though.
3 - The temperature gauge works intermittently. If you see the pic of the clocks that was taken this morning you can see its working fine but when you go over a bump it stops working and then will come back. It must be a loose connector somewhere. I must stress the car does NOT overheat.
4 - There is a small drip of oil from a return pipe to the sump. It is where the hose fits in and is coming from the clamp. It is only one or two drips and does not always happen. it does not require topping up in between services. I only noticed after i changed the oil otherwise i would have replaced the clamp.
5 - The light on the stereo (original) doesn't work so the station is not illuminated.
6 - The gear gaiter is worn.
7 - The fan only works on the last two settings (which is all you want to clear the windows anyway)
8 - When the arches where replaces only the rear quarter panels and wings where resprayed so there is a very slight difference between them and the door colour. You can only notice it is you look close and once polished you can't tell at all.

All these problems are small and the car can be used everyday without issue I'm just giving the best description i can.

Finally it has MOT till May 24th and it has 6 months tax Oh and i want £750 for it. I think this is a fair price due to the good body work and the few extras it has. If you want to come a view the car then either drop me a pm or phone 07738223024.

I've just noticed that in one of the pics the bonnet looks hazy, please note it is frost on bonnet, the paintwork is fine.

No takers at this price? Its a good car with just a couple of small niggles. A lot of sellers (not on here of course) don't even tell you about them you just find out when you drive the car away. Would make a good track car too.

Well yes and no. I've decided to sell the mk2 i bought as its not quite what i hoped for. Although its more powerful and refined it just isn't as much fun. However, i really still want a T-bar mk1 so if someone comes to me with a good offer for this car i'll sell it, if not i'll keep it fo a bit.

If you are local and you want to come and take a look etc, your more than welcome. The cars in Sutton Coldfield at the mo so just drop me a pm or give me a ring.

Oh also there is a guy who should be coming to look at it in the week but he has already cancelled once so i don't hold much hope.
