Guildford Meet - 17 February 2008

Post by Tiamat »

Rising like a 2008 phoenix from the ashes of 2007, its the infamous (and now in glorious technicolour) GUILDFORD MEET!

The start time is going to be 11.30 with an intention to leave for the pub at 12.45 - 13.00 (sharp - no waiting) to ensure we have plenty of time to get there.

As before, the start place for the meet is to be at the Spectrum Leisure Centre to make it easier to get out of the start venue. Details here:

Guildford Spectrum
Parkway
Guildford, GU1 1UP
01483 443 322
www.guildfordspectrum.co.uk

Please note that the Guildford meet is on even if it rains. We meet in the underground section of the car park if it is raining. If it is nice then in the usual open spot.

The pub we will be going to is yet to be confirmed along with the route. I hope to post up a route shortly. It is likely to be one of the previous pubs, given the state of the roads some familiar roads will probably be best.

Please add your name in the usual manner and lets kick of 2008 with a great Guildford meet.

We could use the back roads and join up with the Brighton Meet as we do drive that way.

I'll be going up from Peacehaven up A23 and off at Bolney to cut across to A24 and up A381 or something

I've always supported the Guildford meet but unfortunately it clashes with the MR2OC Brighton one and I put my name down for that some time ago.

It's just a random off the wall idea but the two groups could always get together! Any mileage in that idea Malcolm? If so I can have a word with Andy who runs the Brighton event.

The Brighton run will probably be on the road around 12.45 and we're meeting at a pub north of Henfield on the A281.

If the weather is good we may well go up to Devils Dyke before heading for Madeira Drive.

I've posted up the Guildford meet on the OC, Tiamat if you want to take a look and let us know what you think about the final meeting point of Madeira Drive as you are the organiser of the Guildford meet.

People are welcome to do what they want in terms of going off to hook up with other groups. To be honest the reason I don't do anything with the Brighton meet is when I have gone before it has mainly been dual carriage way and its also the roads I drive on a regular basis, I do the Guildford Meet for the backroads and for the variety. I will have a look at the Brighton Meet when I get a chance to see if there is anyway of hooking up with it. I for one won't be going down to Madeira Drive, I do a meet there every two weeks in any event lol

Well said Malc. Agree with you about the road situation. Nice to have a challenge, not that I'll be driving, but you know what I mean.

I think the idea was to use the back roads down there.

Indeed. It must be a long time since Malcolm went on an MR2OC Brighton meet!
I persuaded Andy that the A23 didn't really measure up on the fun factor chart.
We haven't been that way for more than a year now.

I can see where Malcolm is coming from though, his car must be able to drive the whole of the A281 by itself......

For info, the route we usually take from Pease Pottage is
B2114 to Handcross
B2110 to Lower Beeding
A281 to the Poynings roundabout
unclassified road via Devils Dyke to the A27
A27 to Falmer turn off
B2123 to Rottingdean
A259 to Madeira Drive.

Whether Madeira Drive will be the destination after the pub depends on what people want to do.
Some may well opt for a thrash instead of beach bumming or watching the odd chavmobile tear up and down the front.

Still have to say that route doesn't even come close to the A272, you have to agree with that :thumleft:
