Price reduced - Mk 1 late model supercharger

Post by dgh.mr2 »

For Sale – late model Supercharged Mark 1 MR2 - £3000

c. 80,000 miles (12?,000 km)

Mica Blue late model T Bar supercharger; one of the last mk1's made

See photos at:- http://gallery.mac.com/dghawkes#100007

Taxed to 31st July 2008

MOT until October 13th 2008

Very full service/ parts history and just fully serviced for me by Mac1 Motorsport with new oilpan, oil filter, oil, air filter, gearbox oil, brake fluid in December.

Bought by me in October 2007 for £3000 which seemed excellent value for a very tidy late reg. JDM genuine supercharger – not a conversion with a transplanted engine. Therefore comes with full climate control air conditioning (works perfectly), electric folding wing mirrors and correct rear panel, sc vented boot lid and a third brake light in the spoiler

The key to my purchasing the car (knowing of the corrosion issues, having had 5 over 20 odd years) was that the bodywork/ chassis were spot on with the car having been professionally undersealed at over £300, so no rust issues as under body/ floor pan, arches and sills are in great condition. See photographs . .

Since then I have spent well over £3000 on brand new suspension – 4 x Koni dampers and 30% up-rated springs, High and Tight anti-roll bars front and rear, adjustable drop links and camber bolts, full set of polybushes + brakes refreshed and Goodrich braided lines fitted and new pads. All professionally fitted and set up by Mac1 Motorsport. Suspension therefore effectively now as a new car – or better . .

Also had new Cobra recliner seat (driver’s side) but original can come with car if wanted, Sparco suede steering wheel (again original is still with car) and a very discrete rear roll bar/ hoop/ harness bar from Mac1 in preparation for track days (can be easily removed if wished and has not entailed car being stripped etc.. 2 x new SABLT harnesses (blue) also fitted but seat belt retained and still in place for daily use

4 x new Team Dynamics v. lightweight 15” x 7” alloy wheels with Toyo 888 tyres just bought + will come with set of ‘original’ 5 spoke silver alloys with Yokohama 539s.

Car also comes with original space saver spare tyre, mk1 tool kit and T Bar covers.
T-bar model and is on a personalised plate: A19 GUB (don't ask me why - previous owner decided to do it!)

Only bad points: are as follows:

Slight scratches to the bodywork as most cars of any age – most would easily polish out or a Paint Wizard type company could readily make it look as new.

The front splitter and bumper is a little rough looking on close inspection after apparently hitting a large bit of mud that fell off a tractor in front of the previous owners.

The top of the windscreen has one small area where the previous owner spotted rust – this was treated with Rust Eater which has killed the corrosion and seems to have stopped it from growing but she had not yet fully flatted it off or re-painted it. Again, another easy and cheap job to sort professionally.

Heat shield on the exhaust rattles.

The sale is totally unexpected (having just finished buying and fitting all the parts last month!) and results from an unforeseen and unrepeatable offer to purchase a car – that will become an extreme track only and high powered race car – from an acquaintance, and for which this and my track based MR2 (see separate ads.) need to be sold as collateral.

Timing is therefore tight and I need a quick sale and would be interested to hear from anyone interested with fair and sensible offers.

Will consider a PX for a cheaper daily road car in fair condition (that won’t cost me loads more to fix) with balance my way.

David are you sure the gear box has an LSD? I knew the car well and am fairly sure it didn't have an LSD when it was sold to you.

Jack the rear end up, put car in nuetral, rotate rear one of the rear wheels. If both rotate same direction - it has a slippy diff. If only one rotates or they rotate in opposite directions, there's no LSD :thumleft:

The previous owner (Anna) contacted me yesterday and told me it doesn't have an LSD.

Sorry about that - no intention to deceive, in fact had just logged on to amend the ad. - I just thought all original sc's had them and hadn't pushed it hard enough to tell yet.

No problems David. It would be worth amending your original ad though to remove the part where it says it has an LSD.

Having seen the car/been in it, I can confirm that it does not have an LSD.

Have just managed to get 'Edit' to work after some weird hiccup earlier and the car is now LSD less, but still does have a gearbox . . .

Actually I'm not sure it's going to be sold now (dithery as ever!) as the incoming car looks just too good to be worn out as a daily driver - I can do 500 odd miles each week on a regular basis and often have to park up in dodgy areas - and should, with a bit of modification be very good on track.

So, I'll try to sort out finances to allow me to keep this as a daily car and sell the track car which is just coming to the end of the recommission at KPM after 2 years in dry storage. I'll post a separate ad for this in case anyone is looking for a track biased MR2 - will kill me to let it go but I can't justify two cars for occasional use.

It's not yet fully decided (I never can until the last minute) so if anyone really was interested in it let me know, even if for a px so I have a 'work' car and I'd be interested to hear.

Ditheriness aside, it's now back on - I carelessly left the page up on screen after the 'edit' and my wife (boss) read it and has 'explained' that it is still for sale, MUST be sold and that I must go back to one car, which apparently I'd promised to do (can't remember using the word promise!) when I bought the new one . .

If the price is a stumbling block - and the time of year won't be helping - then I might end up taking off the new wheels, tyres and harness belts etc. and sell for £3000 => a car that cost me £3000 3 months ago (and good value at it) with all new suspension, braking system refreshed, new seat and fully serviced etc. saving a buyer over £2000 of the cash I've since spent on it.

In lieu of the minor (not too costly) paintwork and bumper refurb. needed, as described in the ad. - and to keep the peace/ claw back cash for the incomer - please note that I have reduced the asking price back down to that most seem to be listed around, given this is a genuine sc. with an un-messed with engine . . .

I.E. just the £3000 I paid despite all the parts/ work bought, fitted, done since my purchase 3 months ago.

This is me doing (being seen to do!) my duty so I won't be accepting lower offers.

If no-one comes to see and try it, and I don't have anyone accept this as a fair price then so be it and I escape; I'll keep hold to summer and try again if needed when the market might improve.

So, if anyone does want an sc. at a good price or is interested in px'ing with a cheaper car (preferably an MR2) please get in touch.
