[Mk2] [Turbo] tsukuba battle - rev1 vs rev2 tubbys (+ others)

Post by Quigonjay »

only seen the other tsukuba battle with an mr2 in it before - the one with the skyline and supra but never seen this one
thought it was a comparison between rev2 and rev3 at first considering the performance difference, but it is definately rev1gt vs rev2 gts (rev2 has an lsd)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-NQ4N9im5o

and here are the quarter miles for the same cars

clearly, the differences between the revisions make a difference on track (over 2 secs a lap), though i imagine the lsd and better brakes make the biggest differences

isn't the gts also lighter thus better for cornering than the gt. That track has lots of bends.

TBH I'm not too surprised on the lap, but the 400m surely must be down to the driver?

Just when i saw them around castle coombe i was kinda dissapointed. Guess all the cars are in factory form in that vid.

was it me or did the rev1 seem to over-steer more progressively than the rev2? Although the rev1 was spinning up its inside wheel in one corner.

Yes, why did the rev2 beat the rev1 in a straight line?

A lot to do with the driver because the RX7 whoops the mid-engine NSX when launching.

Great vids

Good vids, not seen them before either.

It bodes well for us 280-300bhp guys running a 13 or high 12s 1/4 mile.

Yeah, I am not sure that is totally correct is it? I thought Rev 3 was 13.9 or so out of the box....

well going by the way they put in "NEW" on the title of the car, and every other car there was bone stock, i can only asume it was to...OLD footage in that case.
im sure ive seen a stock rev3 tubby on a jap video do better than a 13.9 tho..

but i think thats roughly what "normal" people are getting on the 1/4 what your mentioning there.

then again, surely that rx7 shape wasnt about in 92/93? was it? perhaps it was.

yey to picking on rev2 tubbies i say, pmsl!

Yep thats about right. The gen2 got away at the start, but shouldn't have put anymore distance on the gen1 due to the same motor being fitted to each car.

I managed 14.3 @ 98mph bone stock with 95 octane fuel in my old gen1 LOL

If I could have launched harder say, a 1.9 60ft instead of the 2.1 I got, thats in theory a 0.2 advantage at the start which multiplies by the end of the track to 0.4 seconds.

i've got a video of a rev2 GTS and rev3 GTS on quarter mile in jap land, the rev2 came out at about 13.7 and the rev3 did it in 13.3

Doesn't make any sense why the rev2 won on the 1/4 mile lol, but the other video was great seeing the rev2 really do well on the track, made me smile seeing MR2 up front.

Also shows that the handling differences between the rev1 and rev2 are worth while!

Loved the video - good find
