[All] [Generic] main Beam Dash Light after fitting HIDs (Now with a fix)

Post by Jamitsi »

hi,

i know some people have lost there main beam indicator on the dash after fitting HIDs. i am one of them.

has anyone fixed this little problem?
i would assume its something to do with the HIDs only using 1 of the headlight bulb plugs.
can anyone confirm this?

would have thought i would be easy to sort out , but electrics are funny things.

Not mine. I can't remember who provided the diagram but it does, apparently, solve your main beam warning light issue.

is there anyone that can explain this diagram, as i just don't get it. :?

can i use the headlamp bulb plug that isn't being used for this?

or does it have to be an extra loom inbetween the original bulb plug and the HID 3 pin plug that conects to the bulb plug??

Right i have finally got round to sorting this little problem out!
:thumleft: :thumleft: \:D/ \:D/

after much confusion and head scratching!!

most HID kits only use one plug of the cars headlights loom.
so for this i used the other spare headlight plug.
no need to splice or disrupt the fitting of the HID kit.

this fix i would say ifonly for the BI xenon HID H4 kits. as the single Xenon have halogen main beams, and i assume the wiring would be slioghtly different and dash light would work ok.

I used a 4 pin swtiching relay. (available from local motor parts stores.)

follow the diagram.
but test the cars loom plug to confirm the outputs.
a)12v + ( when headlights on main and dipped)
b)earth
c)12v + (when dipped beam on,but NO current when main bean is on)

wire a) needs to go to the 12v + pin of the relay and a wire need to loop from this to the accessory switch pin of the relay.
wire b) needs to go to the accessory 12v of the relay.
wire c) need to go to the earth of the relay,

now because the earth wire to the relay is 12v + wen the Dipped beam is on, the relay won't switch on and will not light up the dash main beam light!
but when you turn on your main beam the Dipped 12v + turns to an earth and the relay switches on and the dash light comes on!
\:D/ \:D/

trust me other drivers on the road will thank me for doing this my car!!

( i also accept no responsibility for any problems which happen while trying to do this fix, you should do this only if competant and have the knowledge! otherwise get an auto electrician)

its quite a simple thing to do, but i just coouldn't get my head room why a 5 pin relay was used, .

but this has sorted the problem for me!
hope this helps others.

ive just copied your idea and it worked fine :D
not sure how you connected your relay in Jamitsi but i plugged the relay directly in to the original wiring.

first i soldered a link cable between pin 86 and 30 on the relay

then i plugged the relay in to the original wiring loom the side that was not used that plugs to the original H4 headlight bulb.

i did have to cut a small bit of the original plug molding off to plug the relay in but this bit is not used and i could easily go back to the original H4 bulbs if i wanted to.

cheers for the wiring diagram
