[Mk2] [Turbo] Smallest turbo to run 10sec 1/4?

Post by Owen @ Kent Car Craft »

Hi peeps,
Its been a while since posting due to business however i now have the bug back for driving and repairing my OWN car rather than customer's LOL.
I ran a 12.3 at 115mph at the pod for the last RWYB on sunday.the run was clean however with slow gearchanges and cheap 235 section tyres at the rear.I think the GT3071 i am running is capable of an 11.8'ish run with slicks and a rebuilt gearbox.
The turbo is for sale in the 'for sale' section as i'm looking to swap for a GT35,which i think would be a good option for 550'ish hp.
Judging by the results on the US MR2 OC the GT35 is good for 10 sec 1/4's but which version?(to allow for the most streetable drive?)
:? :? :?

This was something i was thinking about, and i was hoping somebody would mention it.I spoke with Xxxx whilst at the pod last year,he ran 11.1 with a 75shot of gas also.
Can anyone confirm the 3076 (i'm guessing the .8 hot side) would be capable of this?

according to the thread above 3076 is capable - without gas - of 10's ...

he is a long way in front of the next 3076 user on the "leaderboard" thingy though. Actually, i think it might be AndyF who's the next 3076er on there.

id say a 3076 would be possible to do 10's

Lots of it depends on the launch though

I'm really leaning towards a GT35 at the moment but i dont know what model to go for, which one was Toni using?
Who is using Gt35 on the board? What's the .6 hot-side likely to provide in terms of output and spool characteristics?(with my accompanying mods?)

I'll be running a 35r on an 0.82 a/r when its done. Thought the mid sized one would tick all my boxes when purchasing it.

i managed an 11.02 with a 3076r in a 4wd pulsar.. ok so the launch is going to be better but the drive train losses are massive on the pulsar. how much boost you running through it and what cams etc ?

or is there somewhere i can look at your spec?

edit.
ok found your spec. 272 cams but its doesnt say what boost or injectors your running. i would think 800cc+ and 1.7bar should do it. and of course your tyres.

how do you find the mismatched cams work? i've had better results (on other engines) with pairs compared to mismatched. is this a good setup on the 3sgte?

i have a 35 .82 on my motor - its a 2.2 remember and it doesnt REALLY go untill 5K

If you boot it in 5th on the motorway (eventually) i make 1.5bar at 4100rpm but i guess things dont start breathing properly untill 5000 as thats when hell lets loose.

is that true? remember the mid engine gives very good traction at the rear wheels and because of this, they can launch more or less as good as a 4wd! there is a vid on youtube somewhere of a mr2 vs evo 8 (iirc) at the pod, filmed from the evo and the mr2 pounded off the line!
