Can anyone help...please...had car broken into :(

Post by darrenmr2 »

Had my pride and joy smashed into last night and the radio stolen :( its a 1993 GT tubby...thing im most worried about is the drivers glass that needs replacing as ive heard its hard to match the tints up....i think mine is a bronze colour...? Am absolutly gutted, this is the nicest car i have ever owned and this is the first time this has EVER happened to me! I'll put my mobile number up and if anyone can help me out with drivers glass, fitting it or anything it would be great....thanks guys 07930 915 499

Bad news fella, had mine done the other week

Got my glass from rogue systems then fitted for cash by an RAC windscreen place, autoglass wanted something stupid like £280!!!!

Hope you get it sorted soon and they catch the arses!!

They've caught the guy who did mine but are having trouble convicting him now.....how hard can it be I ask myself!!!

Unlucky mate, this happened to me about 2 months ago. Im curious as to how they got the stereo out though? On our 2's the headunits are bolted in (thankfully) and when mine was broken into all they got was the face-off bit.

Anyway I managed to get a bronze passenger window from http://www.247spares.co.uk/, you enter what you want and various breaker yards txt you with a quote. I got mine for £50 delivered from birmingham within 3 days.

As for fitting I did it myself, its not too hard and you'll learn about your car more if you do it this way! If you take it to a garage though dont pay for more than an hours work.

i had an aftermarket stereo in with a black face front panel (the ones that look like there isnt a radio there....but there is!) so obviously i couldnt remove any part of it...unlike the T**T that nicked it! :( had a price of £100 from my local jap breakers for the window (drivers)...compared to the £50 you paid i consider that very expensive! But i need it 2day :( thanks for help so far guys.....

Hi Darrenmr2,

sorry to hear about your misfortune. Are you insured fully comp? if so take it to Autoglass and they will fit one in for £50. Most of the time this can be reclaimed from the insurance company if you have a crime ref number. It wont affect your insurance either.

If yu're not fully comp then £100 for the glass is expensive... fitting is easy so dont pay over the odds for that either.

Where are you from as i know a local guy (Blackburn NW) who is breaking an MR2. you will be able to get it off him for about £50.

Cheers

Raf

EDIT: sorry ](*,) just seen your profile... you live a tad bit far

Sorry to hear about that!

To find the colour, hold a white peice of paper behind the glass and look at it from the outside. My tubby had a greenish tint.

Hi guys...

Thanks for ALL the help....no im not fully comp so i have paid £100 for the glass secondhand, its in better condition than the smashed window though! Paid £25 to have it fitted as well, so all in all not too bad, still so mad at the ar$e or arses that felt they had the right to smash it in the f**k**g first place though! Had both seats out and hoovered the whole car top to bottom, the glass had gotten EVERYWHERE  just need a radio now.....

Thanks again everyone....

Y'know, I've got a similar stereo in my '2, and worry about some fool popping the window every time I leave the car parked up. After hearing your tale, I'm sorely tempted to just take the damn thing out and have zero music in the car. :x

Sorry for your misfortune mate!

I had mine done a couple of years ago, they broke the rear nearside quarterlight. I was fully comp so covered by insurance, but took autoglas about a week to replace it, as they ordered the one for a mk1 first grr!!

I didnt leave the facia in the car, so they only got away with a few cd's, although they tried to screwdriver my lock! Grrrrrrrrr

I was wondering if its worth lokite-ing the bolts in! When you are finally happy with the head unit, just do what toyota did with our tweeters!!
