[Mk2] [Turbo] How do you seal a buddy club spec 2!!!!!!!!

Post by 2Crooky »

This is getting on my last nerve!!!!

I have a buddy club spec 2 with a slip fit middle joint that will not seal properly!!

I have used fire gum in and around the joint but the sheer heat from the buddy club just turns it to crumbs!! I have it heat wrapped and held on with jubilee clips, but as the air escaping is such a wide area it just slowly moves the heat wrap apart and starts blowing again!!!!

I wouldn't care that much but it is blowing enough to make me drop from 0.7bar at 5000rpm to 0.55!!!! ](*,) It is poor design as when you put the system together the pipes are a snug fit but as soon as you mount it on the car and tighten the other bolts it puts strain on the pipework causing the gap and therefor a blowing joint

Any ideas???

It is just a slip fit so the flexi pipe slots into the rear section....No room for any type of gasket

I am an exhaust whore having had 9 systems but i am yet to have one that hasn't caused me problems!!!!! I love this exhaust but i can't see the joint sealing up any time soon

Answered in the other thread mate.

I used exhaust seal on the joint then got a massive U clamp and tightened it down.... Sealed fine for me, I too was missing the springs so this was the only option i could think of and it worked :thumleft:

dont forget fire gum/putty is not a jointing compound, try using a proper jointing compound and make sure your putting the u clamp on right, U bit not over the slits

A blowing exhaust will NOT reduce the turbo boost pressure, if anything, it will increase it due to increased chance of creeping.

Well that seems mighty odd because my boost drop seems to be directly linked to when the exhaust is blowing!!! The car runs sweet as a nut but i know when the system is blowing as my boost falls at about 5500rpm
