[Mk2] [Turbo] Need advice please, is the garage ripping me off?

Post by mr2ash »

I bought a car a rev4 turbo about 6 weeks ago and agreed a set price including a new clutch to be fitted. As currently when you depress the clutch it makes a grinding rattling noise. It seemed to me to sound like the thrust bearing had gone.

The gentlemen at the garage differed the job for weeks and weeks until today as he said that his garage is being refurbished, fair enough looks like new.

So, I at this stage it goes into every gear no problems, doesn't catch or knock.

I left the car at 8:45am and received a phone about 11 saying that he didn't realise but as he took of the gearbox cover, there is a nearly new OCR Ogora triple plate clutch in it with a 40% lighter flywheel.

He said I would be stupid to take this out as its designed to take 450hp and is more than I currently need anyway.

He is adiment that this clutch is supposed to make this noise?

Does this sound about right, if anyone has any info please help. As I have paid for the clutch to be done with no clutch done. Even if I bought him a flywheel he said he can't put a standard clutch back in as it would ruin the balance of the engine. I haven't got the money for another uprated clutch at the moment or ever as it usually seems.

Thanks guys \:D/

could be true, I believe multiplate dry clutches do make a fair old noise when they are not pressed together

Multi-plate clutches do make a sort of jangling sound when you depress the pedal - the OS Giken twin-plate on my car did the same.

It's BS about not being able to put a standard flywheel back on though. It shouldn't make any difference to the 'balance of the engine' - you'll find the Ogura one will rev up quicker though. A good improvement over stock.

If it's working properly, I'd say keep it as it is and enjoy it! It's an expensive mod!

Yeah second that.

The clutch is noisey. It should sound similar to to metal dustbin lids being rubbed together. As for the flywheel - very good upgrade. And one of the best makes too. :thumleft:
Running: 313.8BHP @ fly and 285lb torque on 1.15bar.
