[Mk1] [Turbo] Hesitation/Flat spot at about .4bar Boost Help please

Post by vodkaprince »

Hi,

Just got back from a short trip to and from my office was fine on the way there, but on the way back the car seems to have started playing up.

At about .4 Bar boost the power seems to just drop of dramatically feels like its miss firing, engine revs freely to redline under no load and feels fine to drive off boost!

It did this once b4 but only for a few miles then seemed to resolve its self! Any ideas? HELP...
Fast isnt good enough, scary is acceptable. Terrifying preffered!!

Is it running in safe mode, have you checked for error codes?

Usually a sign of electric component wear

Check:
Plugs
Rotor arm
dizzy cap
Leads.

Also check all boost hoses for leaks/splits as well.

Cheers

If all this is ok it might be worth checking the coil pack.

A paper clip 8)

Bridge terminal t1 and TE1 iirc (havent done it for ages never had a prob with my cars lol!!)**Mike jinxes his new car**

Watch the number of flashes of your ecu light when you turn the ignition on. it will flash code 12 or 21 cant remember which way round constantly if there is no problems - or 3 times - and then all your other fault codes

Ok very odd...

Had a quick look at the leads etc couldnt see any issues, took it out today and it seems ok again!! No flat spot etc.. only seems to be boosting to around .7 to .8 Bar though..

Could this be a result of lower octane fuel?? I had to use normal unleaded rather than super the other day... Also the hesitation issue the other day was on a particularly hot day over here, so maybe a heat soak sticky actuator issue?

Hi

If it was hot and you had been sat in traffic then yes this could happen - should clear though once you get going and get some nice cool air into the intake and over the intercooler
