Post by mr2mk1chick »

Silverstone Classic

Friday/Saturday/Sunday
27th /28th /29th July

The MK1 club is allowed a special price of two tickets for the price of one ie £20 per car per day or £35 for 3 days.
**Only places left are for friday and saturday now**

Please contact Ken Salmon or Jo Walker ASAP if you want to attend as tickets have to be obtained from Silverstone in advance and you will need a vehicle pass to get to the club stand centre circuit.

Silverstone are aiming to restore the Classic to the Historic Festival of the nineties when it was attended by crowds of 100,000 plus. Most of the Classic clubs at that time widely regarded it a must go and featured on members calendar dates.
Our club attended soon after its formation in the mid nineties until the Classic was discontinued a few years later for technical reasons.

Our club attended again last year, the second year of the Classics being reintroduced.
It was hugely successful and attracted a crowd of 38,000 , our members said it was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable occasion.

Following Aston Martin last year Porsche will be the featured marque for 2007. celebrating 25years of the 956,one of the most famous Porsche Group C race cars.

There will be a total of 22 races from 15 categories covering 60 years of nostalgic classic motor racing with an open paddocks, free grandstands and many trade stalls together with other attractions and entertainment creating the genuine festival spirit.

The retro run will again feature as a main attraction of the Saturday and Sunday with the opportunity of a Grande finale of two presentation laps of the Silverstone circuit. Start points from several different parts of the country including Silverstone. Two members that represented our club last year were overwhelmed with the experience.
Our cars acceptable this year are 1986 and prior and we are looking for two more members to drive the experience. If your car fits the bill and is one that the club can be proud of please contact us immediately so we can get you included.

Camping is available on an adjoining site

Yup - I was also there last year on the club stand, and it was brilliant. It's a great weekend out and the racing is fantastic. It was definitely one of the best weekends I had last year.
A bit annoyed I can't make it again this year really, but if you're considering it and don't know if you want to go or not... go...! :)

I'm looking forward to it :) Sakura is booked on the run and will have her new wheels by then, shame she wont have the new bodywork though!!!

Who is camping at Whittlebury? We were going with some other friends but I'm sure I'll have time to come and say hi!

I'd say this was my favourite show last year, I went both days and really enjoyed it. I will definitely be going, and I have confirmed my ticket with the legend that is.. Ken Salmon.

I will be going thurs eve after work to set up the gazebo.

:?: If anyone is local and can give me a hand that would be great.

Garrick will be away, so i will have to rope in the help of an unsuspecting security guard or something otherwise.

I won't be there friday as i can't get the day off work, but look forward to saturday and sunday - i hope the weather improves

Right-o, i got the gazebo up last night in a bit of a gale. It pegged down so i hope its still there for Ken this morning.

Our Pitch is next to the Drivers club one, and we are on tarmac standing mostly.

Looks like it s gooing to be a great weekend of classic racing - with soem old F1 cars etc.

I was chatting to some very friendly E-Type Jag owners (who helped hold a corner or two of the gazebo)

Well done Jo, glad you got the gazebo up ok.

I'm heading up tomorrow morning with Emma, and then Sunday with Dave. I might not be in the 1.5 as it currently has no alternator fitted, so more than likely I'll be in the 1a (dents and all!)

See you then!!

Just got back from Silverstone - what an awesome weekend.
the weather was great (slightly windy) but mostly warm, and dried out everywhere lovely.

I took quite a few photos so am just starting to resize a few for uploading, so will post them up asap.

My ears are still rining a bit from the old F1 cars and the Le Mans Sports car thingys racing.

Great weekend! I must apologise for being the last to arrive and first to leave.. both days!

I've got a few pictures as well, I'll try and get them up asap.

Thanks to Ken Salmon, Jo and Garrick.

My ears are ringing as well!

It was a good weekend with a fair bit to do and see 8)

Highlights included watching some very good racing from the Class C cars (including one 45 minute race), some older and relatively newer F1 cars and the Porche Open Cup Race (I think) with virtually all marks of porche covered.

We generated a fair bit of interest for the club and the cars too which also included a number of new members signing up :thumleft:

Vix & Phil (Kiowas) had a pretty good time on the classics run which also included a couple of laps around the circuit.

Some photos:

We have a load more photos, but I think those sum it up nicely. Unfortunately we didn't get any of the racing, but I'm sure others did :thumleft:

Nice pictures G!

I must admit, I was very impressed with the quality of some of the Mk1s on the drivers club stand, although their turn out wasn't great considering it was their main show of the year...

I had trouble uploading my pictures last night, I'll try again later..

We had loads of fun despite me having some kind of completely random exhaustion all weekend which included me falling asleep in the car whilst on the Retro Run display and also falling asleep sat on ston steps at the end of the Pit straight whilst the Astons were racing!!!
