Full black respray and something different with the alloys

Post by mr2nut123 »

Ive managed to convince my dad (at last) to book me in for a full original black respray on the tubby as it was eventually showing its age a bit in places. The car is absolutely immaculate now (apart from the tatty torn interior on drivers side  ) I've had all the sidestrips, splitters and skirts all colour coded to rev3 spec to really bring it up to date. Also, the front lights and back lights were sprayed with lacquer with a tint of black. The lights still shine through spot on and have passed MOT before.

For the alloys, I used the standard ones, rubbed them down and sprayed them the same colour as the car. I then inner masked the wheels and used chrome style paint to spray what looks like a chrome rim around the edge. I did this as I like the original ride quality/handling of the 15"s and I think its a unique touch to the car.

To finish it all off I put my customized vinyl that I created in Illustrator on the car at last, after having it printed and sat here for a while now. Just a simple turbo logo with MR2 over the top for a subtler way of saying its a turbo.

Anyway enough babbling, heres the pics. Feedback welcome..

Love the lights.

Wanna do the same to mine but worried about gettin stopped for having no rear reflectors.

How do you get round that? :-k

Cheers!

As for the reflectors. Although the lights are very dark, what you have to do is mix a lot of lacquer and a small amount of black paint. Lacquer can be shon through perfectly and MOT passable so by adding a few thin layers at a time to build up the black, the lights actually shine through just as good as factory by what I can see.

Cheers for comments, appreciated. Those pictures really dont do the car justise at all. Seeing it for real makes you appreciate the quality of the finish and overall look.

I quite like the decal myself and so have around 90% of the people ive asked on here and my mates. I guess its personal taste but I designed it all myself in illustrator which took bloody hours so im not having it go to waste

redmr2 is talking about the reflectors dude.....not the lights themselves....
you clearly need to see reflectors to pass an mot, if youve got away with that, your lucky....
but going by the pics the reflectors arnt visable and hense wouldnt pass "most" mot places....thats what hes on about..

yeah that's the one Jim :thumleft:

MOT states that the rear reflectors must be red and clearly visable, not cracked or distorted and fully functional.

Hense why I'm tinting mine and leaving the reflectors red.

Take the chance,

Must have blacked mine out about four/five years ago and not been stopped by the police once.

Helps if family own an MOT centre too!

lol amen to that, got a friend who owns one

Police are forever tailgaiting me and obviously bringing up my details on the computer and then tend to turn off when they realise i'm fully comp and i'm honest and upfront about my car unlike quite a few young lads around this area. Even spoke to a few cops about my car at filling stations etc and they're all sorted about it.
