Roll Centre Adjuster Blocks....

Post by jrleech »

Does anyone remember where sells 'Roll Center Adjuster Blocks'?

There was a company in Japan that sold them, they were machined Aluminium spacers that fitted between the hubs and ball joints to drop the lower arm and maintain the correct suspension geometry when fitting lowered springs.

I can't remember who the company was, and my Googling has come up empty....

Thanks,
Jon

Thanks Kev, that's the thing. Not sure they'll fit the MR2 though, the AE86 and the MR2 use different ball joints (according to the EPC)...

I'll e-mail the seller and see if he knows....

Found another one...

Amazing what pops up in Google when you remember most people can't spell centre properly ;)

According to the EPC, the Mk1 and Mk2 use the same front ball joints, which should mean that the Mk1 and Mk2 can use the same roll centre (center) adjusters...

Technotoytuning sell these as far as i know in the US.

Bare in mind you'll need 15" wheels to fit them though, I tried on 14's and the rears at least meant i couldn't get the rim on.

Techo doesn't sell them anymore. Really the only thing you can do is try some AE86 blocks, make your own, or source them from Japan. You can probably fax what you want to tbs Japan since I understand that they speak and understand English. It will be expensive.. but you can get them from Japan.

Go to Google type in TBS Technical Salon base or Technical Base Salon for there website.

Thanks guys...

I've e-mailed TechnoToyTuning just to check, if they can't do them, then I'll think about getting them from Japan.

Will the AE86 blocks fit? The ball joints have a different part number...

Just got a reply back from TechnoToyTuning and they've said they'll have a new batch of AW11 RCA's available in a couple of weeks! :D

Excellent

Yes T3 definately do still make them, i spoke to Gabe yesterday about a big brake kit for my AE86 and mentioned it.

Am back from China, off to the US in a few weeks though for some testing.

Have now sold the Mk1 Challenge car too so can repaint my SC Hardtop and get it out on the road and maybe a few trackdays.

Matt,

As a suspension guru, do you reckon that RCA's are worth fitting?

I presume there is no benefit of fitting them on the back?

Cheers,
Jon

If you are thinking about fitting roll centre adjusters then this is worth reading; http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2427

The last few posts are most relevant.

Thanks Dex, I'd forgotten about that thread. How is yours setup now then, are you still running RCA's and what else did you do?

My car's been off the road for a considerable time now  whilst I build an engine up for it 8) .

Due to the difficulties of getting the steering arms altered to correct the problem I've decided to tackle things in a more comprehensive way and go the whole hog on it; I'm going to do away with the RCA's and raise the inner pivot points of the lower arms, rear toe links and steering rack so that the geometry is back to how Toyota designed it. This is probably too drastic for most people but I figure after spending a fortune on the suspension (and now on the engine) it would be daft to leave something compromised.

Wow, that's a big job! I'm not sure whether RCA'a are worth it now.... I might fit them and see what I think, I can always take them off again.

It's an easy enough job to fit them and see what you think. A couple of things to watch for are;

Either the front or rear RCA's should be 5mm thicker (I cannot remember which) than the other pair so that you can do away with the small spacer shim Toyota fitted. Some cars are missing this spacer because of shoddy workmanship in the past when the ball joints have been replaced.

The hubs are made out of monkey metal and it's incredibly easy to strip the threads without really noticing you've started on a cross thread with the new bolts.

Yes they are worth fitting Jon, the front and rear suspension really aren't that different in design and both suffer badly from bump steer when you lower the vehicle.

I had Nams ones on my old SC and they were 25mm front 20mm rear from memory.

They are in the garage so i could measure them if required.

yea, I guess I should never listed to people on the US board about whats still available and whats not. Gabe took the RCA's as being available off his site.. so everyone assumed they were not making them anymore. But, I guess he is now, good!

I have the fronts on my car and I should be getting the rear RCA's in the mail any day now. Also, I'm going to redrill the knuckles and lower the steering arm in the fronts and rears also by getting a bumpsteer kit. Since my car is so low.. my front tie rod ends are angled in a way that is not good.

Thanks guys, I'll see what sizes they make up.

Mine had the small spacer shim when I stripped it down, they're only a couple of mm thick, can't believe it was really worth it!
