[Mk2] [Generic] What car to pinch lambo style headlights from?

Post by skytek »

I'm planning on removing the lambo style lights on my car (Sorry to th eprevious owner as he put so much time in making them :( ) as they just won't pass an mot over here, despite passing in England, but if at all possible I'd like to still have similar lights taken from a standard car of another make and model retro-fitted in rather than revert back to pop-ups. My problem is finding a car which has these lights which will roughly fit in their place, or even just close enough to work with some cutting and modding, but which car?

I know the nissan 300zx has the kind of lights I'm talking about but I don't completely like the style of the lights, so what else would be an option?

If I had a list of cars that had that kind of flush fit light setup I could go about looking up measurments for them and work out which would be easiest to install.

Thanks.

And here's a pic of the car in it's current form for reference:

couldn't you spend a day on the mainland every year - just to get it MOT'd ?

Think if there had been an easy swap option, the previous owner would of found it when doing the lights in the first place. good luck in your search though.

does it look like the lights could be converted back to pop-ups ? if so, rev 6 ALWAYS look great.

I'm confused as to why they wouldn't pass? Surely they are just standard Hella units as used in the Rev6 conversion? If they're E-marked or whatever then that surely must be fine. After all I'm pretty sure they used those same units in the likes of the TVR Tuscan and MG ZT.

If it's the fact that the lights need to be higher as they no longer pop-up then you have problems as no flush fit is really going to do the trick (with the poss. exception of the Gen7 Celica lights). Either way, it'll have to be something like those or Mitsubishi FTO units, which look gash IMO. A lot of work for either option.

I would seriously do a bit more research before ripping your car apart mate.

These lights are a home made diy job and are not kite marked. And the only way they would ever pass an mot even in England would be if you were mates with the mot guy and he turned a blind eye to them for a few beer tokens  Sadly thing's don't work that way over here and our mots have to be done at DVLNI test centres where beer tokens mean nothing

The lights point in crazy directions and seeing in the dark is very hard so they would need a bit of work to get them right and adjusting the beam height is done by bending bits of metal and it's just not accurate enough to please the mot man unfortunately.

They are a work of art and hats off to Ryan who made them but I'm probably going to have to go back to pop ups or think about the rev6 lights.

You're probably right about it not being an easy job to fit some lights from another car so as I said it's probably just a pipe dream :(
