Just been to see a Mk1 T-bar Mica Blue

Post by stevenb »

What can I say. Not what it says on the tin. :(
I was told the drivers leather seat had a rip......it looked as if Freddie Krugar had slashed it. Rust around the windscreen. Hole in the front boot floor. I was told there was some bubble rust on the front arch......perhaps they forgot to mention the rust on all the other arches as well as the hole in the rear arch. Chav wheels, Chav side repeaters.....no no no. Not as advertised at all. Easily about £300-£400 of work needed.
The asking price was £1475. I would have been reluctant to part with £1000.
I wish advertisers were more considerate.
I hope it's no-one on here but Im not saying any names. Good luck to them selling it.

I'd say bad luck to them selling it if they've made you drive out to see them under false pretenses.

I had exactly the same when i was buying my second MK1. I asked what the rear arches were like and the guy said yep, great. When i got there the fronts were rusted to hell.

The guy kept saying make me an offer adn i kept telling him no, i'm not interested, its not what i want. Told him it was worth around £400 less and thanks for wasting 3 hours of my time etc... I hate it when you get this kind of dishonesty. I didn't even drive the car in question, whats the point?

I didnt even start the engine :( . Luckily the seller was only 8 miles away. He had said he had a viewer from Plymouth.... ..that's an awful long way. Bet they weren't too pleased. So much work needed doing to it. Bonus was he was polite, left me to view it on my own etc etc. Thanks. Oh well. Back to square one. This is going to take sometime. :(

Be patient and it'll pay off.

If you're prepared to put in a bit of work, you can pick something up for a few hundred quid... literally; I paid 350 for my 88 t-bar.

For 1400 quid I'd want it to be pretty damn good and not need anything apart from a regular servicing.

Thats what I thought too. My last Mk1 was minty mint at £1800...all old reciepts MoT's etc. tool kit...great bodywork and interior.....but this was taking the biscuit IMO.
I want to buy a cheap car and do it up but I have a problem in that my Mk1 will be a daily driver No choice. I must have a car for work. So thats why Im thinking .....well lets buy something that costs more. catch 22... :(
