Hi I'm from Germany and I'm new here.
Sorry, but my English isn't very well sometimes...
In about 2 months I get a 1998 Revision 5 Turbo from Japan.
It has the powerful 245 bhp engine. It is RHD!
Some facts:
Rev 5
1998
White!
245 bhp
100,800 km's (about 63k miles)
Air Con
Half Leather seats
electric mirrors
heated screens
Stainless Exhaust (single exit)
Boost Gauge
changed timebelt in 2002
How much is it worth in UK?

Thank you.
Oh nice to hear... *smile*
The car is stock. Nothing changed except the exhaust.
8-10K sounds okay for me... Hope to find a buyer in the UK.
Here in Germany the people are scared of the RHD

Wrong!!!
Not worth much as it can not be registered in the UK!!
You will have to wait till 2008 to be able to register it in the UK!
Effective 2004 (I think), used cars from Japan can only be registered on a UK title when older than 10 years, no sooner can it be registered on a UK title.
Only possible thing right now is to break it up for parts.
So will be almost impossible to sell in the UK now as it cannot be registered.
To break up for parts it will probably be worth 3-3.5K, 4 at best.
I have twice seen 1998 Beams MR2's beeing sold without registration during the last year, both fetching about 3.2K
Sorry to burst the bubble

OR someone cvould buy it and store it until 2008 and then register it as its 10yrs old then
Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
Okay. I didn't know this law...
In Germany it can't be registred because of the tax classification and the catalystic converter... F***** Laws here...

So what is an realistic price for the 98 Turbo? 9K?
Where can I put an advertisement for the car? autotrader?

Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
No way you can get anything close to that.
A UK registered '98 (the ones that were imported before 2004) will maybe get between 7-8,5 K if in very good cond.
I think a UK registered low mileage (30-40 K.mls) Red '98 was recently sold for 7.2K
A non UK registered higly tuned silver '99 Turbo with lots of options and a claimed 400bhp has been for sale in the UK for over two months now, asking price 7.995 UKp, after 2 months still not sold. Seller is seriously considering breaking it to sell all the special parts.
Problem beeing that in another year with depreciation, these cars (with UK registration, will at that time probably be worth no more 7-8K at best.
So if buying one now and having to store it for a year (depreciation/storage cost/maintenance/financing) , will have to be reflected in the price.
You will be lucky to get more than 4K I think, but who knows, maybe someone will want to buy it and store for a year...

Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
I have a REV5 turbo imported from newerea, nearly 4 years back now, I would say 7-8 would be ballpark, probably
Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
I personally think that the car would bring about 7500-8000 UKp...
It a seldom car with this engine and the Rev I think!
The turbo engine was never sold in Germany, an the car would bring about 10K at once, when it would be LHD...
So is anybody else interested in the car? I got 3 PMs by now...

yes.. if you could get it registered at the moment which you cant!
You got yours before the Law changed hence why yours will be valued more than this chaps in germany.
Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
Actually agentturbo aka Carl on here had a genuine rev5 turbo which he bought about a year ago.
How does that work out then?

I know about the import law I was going on the basis that it would have been registered and imported in 2008 (next year )
I sold my beams last year (registered) for 5k (lump was in a 1993 car) so i think people (i know i would) would pay over 8k for a rev5 tubby registered in uk. Condition would have to be mint obviously but 9/10 times they normally are!
I've seen more than a handful of cars over here (early rev 4 tubbys) no mods and if so vry minor-i.e exhaust/filter sell for roughly 7,999 so there are buyers out there holding out for the newer minter turbo's.
I would still say 8k minimum-but thats my oppinion. (my friend just sold a rev1 tubby for 3.5k)

Ive got a mate who just bought a rev 3 GT tubby for £3.5k... A car is worth what someone is willing to pay...

Regarding this 10 year rule, did'nt they recently change the rules so that an "ESVA" test is applicable for ANY car registered after 1st January 1997 - which requires a model report?
So as regards to the 10 year rule, that would have applied to cars older than 10 years from January 1st this year, but from that point onwards.. even if they are over 10 years old they still have to have an ESVA test?
Which then means no more Rev 5 Turbo's as there is no model report available and probably never will be.
I quote (from a website)
"What do SVA and ESVA mean and what's the difference?
SVA = Single Vehicle Approval - This test is now obsolete and has been replaced by the ESVA test (below). ESVA = Enhanced Single Vehicle Approval
For cars built after January 1997. These cars also need a model report."
I could be wrong, but im pretty sure this is correct.
Re: Selling 1998 Rev5 T-BAR (!) Turbo + shipping to UK
You'll have a hard job getting people to travel to Germany to buy it...plus you don't mention it's a t-bar so I'm guessing it's not. White hardtop? Sorry £8K is pushing it. Also a cambelt in 2000? I'd want to change that again, that's 7 years ago now. You might find someone! Less likely if it can't be registered, and I think there might be problems with that.
