[Mk2] [Turbo] Dizzy / plugs / rotor arm

Hello, could someone tell me the best place to get a dizzy / rotor arm, and set of plugs (which type too). I want to get them tomorrow, so i dont want an online place.

Toyota is near me but their prices are just fag, but we do have an ALS and an autoquip locally - but will they stock it all ??

If it's for a turbo, then Toyota is the best place for dizzy and rotor arm. Plugs, anywhere will do so long as they're the right type.

However I suspect you'll be lucky to find anywhere that keeps the parts on the shelf, especially for a turbo. Why not try phoning round?

Have the plugs too - reccomend either BKR6EP-8 (original fitment) or BKR6EIX (if you like Iridium).

Ignition stuff is under engine section.

Only thing I'd say is I've heard several reports of NGK BKR6EIX failing, and they're not rumours!! Go for the platinum tip instead which is NGK BKR7EVX, or the BKR6EP-8 as Geoff mentions.

Had this debate before and if anyone has a failed iridium plug (doesnt have to be from me - any at all) send it me and I'll pass it on to NGK for analysis.

What you should absolutely never do is adjust the gap on an iridium plug using something like a feeler gauge leveribg it (bad practice anyway) whre any pressure is put on the tip - it damages them.

BTW Not forgotten about your engine mount - should have it any day now :-)

As I said - if antone has a failed plug send them to me and I'll pass them on.

I've asked NGK's Technical Department directly and they are not aware of any problem with Iridium plugs. However, you can damage any sort of plug, iridium, copper whatever with pre-detonation.

You can also damage an iridium plug by levering against the tip attempting to gap plugs as the tip id very fine - something you should never do with any plug really - get a proper gapping tool.

I have heard before that platinum are better for the car rather than iridium

BKR6EP-8 Platinum are original fitment for both N/A and turbo 1992 onwards. Iridium (which is a platinum alloy but harder) allows the tip to be smaller than the V-grooved platinum. Dont think there is much in it TBH but NGK reckon Iridium is an improvement on platinum. Platinum plugs are supposed to be changed every 72 months (6 years) so work out even more economical than copper and give a more consistant performance.

Any motor factor will supply you with these, blueprint parts of course but a damn sight cheaper than Toyota and not a lot worse! My last rotor arm cost me a fiver!

Cap and rotor arm are the same on N/A and turbo.

And I think I know why (one size fits all and all that) LOL! :-)

Just kidding, to be fair the dizzy cap on cars between 01.12.1991-01.11.1993 both used part#19101-88364 but after 01.11.1993 the N/A used part# 19101-88460 (see http://www.flashmetal.com/index.asp?fun ... T&catid=55 for part no.s of all components)

They are different as can be seen in photo below:


I sometimes wonder if some of the difficulties people on here have is because they are not careful enough about getting the right part?...

have replaced dizzy cap and rotor arm but dont think they needed doing!

Good point though have managed to sort the boost problem - one way valve in the recirc system unplugged it last night and omg how fast is it now!

So just got to go get a new one way valve and check it is hooked up right,

does anyone have a piccie of how their recirc valve is hooked up

hiya becky, where abouts is the one way valve? Rekon i've got a boost problem and im going through things to try and find out what it is, done dizzy, rotot arm, sparks, etc.

I simply disconnected the pipe from the recirc valve with the one way valve in it. And car now boosts perfect

I got a new one way valve on mine and the BoV doesn't appear to work. I get great compressor stall, but would rather have the BoV working properly. Might try it un recirculated to see if it is blowing at all.
