ive just got my renewel £484

but ive onyl declared whells and exhaust

I phoned sky and declared everything and they quoted £786

The thing is lots of the stuff comes off quibkly or is hard to notice it.

Hybrid - looks standard
Water injection - unscrews in 10 minutes
Greddy intercooler - fits in standard position and looks standardish
Forged pistons - how would they know
MBC - removeable very quickly
Lowewered - cant get round that one
Downpipe - must be covered by the exhaust
wheels - covered

should i go for the cheaper option or get fully insured. Ive had my Mr2 with then for 3 years

Depends if your half dead and the cars upside down in a field or not.

Internal engine mods I wouldn't declare....

In fact, nothing on mine is declared on my MR2, i rarely drive it. Yes, it is a risk I know, but it's a risk i'm prepared to take.

(And please, no lectures from the do-gooders, i'm not intrested in your comments!!)

I need to build up some no-claims discount on it!

Because you di*khead, you pile off the road, kill some kids mum, child grows up without a mum and your insurance company don't pay anything towards the upkeep of the child because you didnt declare the stuff youve done to your car.

Childs family try to claim off you but get nowhere cos you can;t afford an extra £300 insurance let alone the upkeep of a child, but its all ok cos you might be able to get an extra years no claims.

Its not all about sticking your car in a ditch backwards and scurrying around trying to take off you MBC.

mabe look at it from another point of view...

say you spend a wod load of cash on your mr2, internals, externals and what not, and u total it, and maby it catches fire and theres nuffin left.... then you will only get a pay out for a Standard car.. losing you all them mods/money!

thing is i dont use my car much and i dont drive like an idiot, so imay have a little crash but writing it off is unlikely. If someone crashes into me it doesnt matter about my modifications as it will be claimed on there insurance, plus a modified car isnt worth much more than a std one. Seeing they only come and check your car if you have a big crash, £300 extra seems a lot of money

at the end of the day, internal mods are a hard one becos know one knows there there. but i personally (being the sensible 19 year old i am) have declared all the mods on my tubby, simply because im like that. but you can see....from the exstortionate prices we pay for insurance in this country. why people go without declaring them.

Actually, they make lots of money from policies, what else would they invest with? They are without doubt the worst bunch of thieving w@nkers with the exception of banks and the Government. On the one hand we're told road accidents are down because of the scameras on the other we're told insurance has to go up because there's more accidents.

They make some money from policies - but the reason we are told that insurance costs are increasing, is because of the increasing value of personal injury claims people make.

The market will provide anyway - so shop around. If your an IMOC premium member, then see what that scheme will do for you.

You must declare your mods though, not doing so invalidates your insurance, which is as bad as driving around with no insurance. (agreed it's a PITA though)

Whatever they blame it on, it's clearly a scam as always. The reasons for the increases will change almost on a yearly basis to fit in with what most people will be more likely to believe. The real truth is, they will have record profits again next year regardless of any over-inflated increases.

I agree that all mods should be declared, there's not much we can do about insurance rip-offs and not declaring is not really worth the potential hassle; they must love it when they catch you out. However it is understandable to me why people don't do it.

I'm not a sceptic honest.

Insurance is there to proctect you!!!

*If you damage your car it pays out.

*If you damged someone else`s car or property it pays out.

*If you kill some one it pays out.

Thats the theory behind it, i know what people are gonna say "OH THEY NEVER WANNA PAY OUT " and " IT`S LIKE GETTING BLOOD OUT OF A STONE"

I bet half the poeple on this forum aren`t fully covered due to modifactions they haven`t declared!!

I bet a quarter of people on this forum have imported cars with stuff they don`t even know about (HELL I FOUND A FPR YESTERDAY NEXT TO THE FUEL FILTER I ONLY SAW IT COZ I WAS UNDER THE CAR!!!!) you might have forged internals, there mods but if you can see them and aren`t about to start rippind the head of to find them how you gonna declared them??


People drive everyday with out insurance and never get caught, poeple drive everyday thinking there fully covered but really if they had a crash the insurance money they think they`ve paid is worth nothing, it`s down to the individual.


JUST REMEMBER !!!

If you have a crash and aren`t insured there coming after YOU for the cash be it £100 or £1,000,000. Is it really worth it for an extra few hundred quid?????

I was reading an article about insurance companies and how they make money, they take yours and invest it, like banks do.

But, like most sensible people here have said that your not insured if you don't declare your mods, and as you get older and youve heard of someone not getting a pay out or somethings happened to yourself then you will realise what a dumb thing not being insured properly is, and to come on a public forum bragging about it is quite bizarre, your driving illegally, so might as well do it properly and just not bother insuring yourself at all!

people spend 1000's on there cars but dont ever seem to factor in the cost of insurance, if you can't afford it dont so the mods!

Exactly. Great point, why waste the £484 to not be insured?
Other than to obtain road tax, and avoid the spot checks on insurance, MOT and tax. These are now fully computerised so the boys in blue or DVLA either following you, in a layby or on a bridge can automatically send you a nice fine and a few points.
Basically you don't want to pick up the fine/points but don't give a s***e about anybody you may crash into or knock down while driving illegally.
Yes insurance companies do try and wriggle out of paying, it's not surprising when so many people deliberately withholding vital information to avoid the insurance company fully assess the risk their exposed to. But if you've been 100% honest upfront there is very little they can do to avoid paying out.
Oh, and the premiuim increases are to cover the personal injury claims that are now so common after the slightest shunt. We live in a claims culture so everything that gets paid out is then paid for by future policies. It's just a simple mathematical calculation.
