I think my fuel pump is fecked can anyone tell me if it's inside the tank or an external one and how likely it is that these wear out? The car is a rev turbo.
Also does anyone know how much they are and the best place to get one if it is away?
Cheers, Gav.
In tank mate
Bit of a pig but around 6hrs of a job.
Worth going for an uprated one for the sake of it then you dont need to do the job twice!
Pumps are available from all the vendors on here and fitting by most of them too.
peter at sbits can supply and fit as can rogue, think tim can supply only at the mo.
Cheers for the fast reply! I thought that it was in the tank.
Sounds like it's gonna cost some but I agree, may well be woth getting an uprated one! I'll have a look at prices just now but still need to get the one that's on tested but pretty sure it has died. Is this a fairly common?
They rarely fail outright or die - but can get tired after say 10 - 16 years of use!! usually its only noticed on high power set ups as thats when you need the pump to be optimal.
try this for delivery - i cant help with garages in glasgow though! http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=58682
Good man, that looks like a good deal!
Keep it quiet though as he only has 10 to sell... go and scrub that link out of your past post whilst I wait to see if mine has indeed seen better days.
Cheers, Gav.
What makes you think the fuel pump's gone mate? Get a pressure test done on the fuel system, it's very easy to do and any garage should be able to do it providing they have the kit.
Steve
Yo Screech,
It's in today to be tested.
Car starts up ok but when you touch the throttle the revs drop and it stalls. Plenty of air getting in and spark is ok so I guess it's the fueling. I've popped the filter off and it's clear so the only other two things that I was thinking were fuel pump or perhaps fuel pressure sensor?
Any other ideas?
Cheers, Gav.
cheers for the offer dude, but my man at the garage recons it isn't the fuel pump at all. However, he doesn't know what it is...? Car is now going to his friends garage who specialises in Jap car to get put on the diagnostic to see if they can uncover the problem.
Anyone on here got any ideas though? Basically...
The car was running ok but had a bad flat spot/misfire when cold. I since changed all the ignition components and still there (apart from coil). So I decided to put the car in to get the timing checked... but it's a friends garage so it was put off for a while .
Anyway, I decided that in the mean time I would put some injector cleaner through her (redex) and then the next day... the car was running like crap. It actually seemed ok when driving along and boosted up ok but when I let her idle afterwards she would stall but would start up ok once I turned the ignition back on. However, this got worse and later on that day the car was still starting ok and idling normal but when I touched the throttle the revs would drop and the car stall!
I checked that the fuel filter was ok and the car was drawing in enough air and even cleaned the plugs but eventually called out the good old RAC. He then tested my spark and it seemed to be firing ok so he and I agreed that it must be a fueling problem.... but aparently not....
Hope that is enough information , any ideas will be greatly appreciated, particularly if the are right
PS: no cat and exhaust seems ok.
What check did you do to determine that you've got enough air going in mate? It could be that you've got an air leak on the inlet side and unmetered air is getting in hence it dying when you rev it.
Just a thought!
Steve
Cheers Steve, perhaps you right.
The car didn't get to the other garage until late on today so hasn't been tested yet but it did start up and run (but badly). The guy driving it said it felt like there was a massive misfire between 2-3k revs.
Makes me think that it must be the coil now and I suppose that would add up considering I've had that flat spot for ages. I'll feel like a bit of a pudding if it is but I suppose it's best to get these things checked out?
I'll hopefully find out tomorrow and I'll let you know.
Cheers, Gav.
