There's an excellent Mk1 buyers guide here Nick Challoner
Have a look in the for sale section of the mr2mkclub there's always some nice ones on there. Quite a few on ebay at the mo,do a search for mr2mk1 and you'll find a few (some white)

Have a read of this:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nick.chall ... mk1bg.html

Its a pretty comprehensive MK1 buyers guide.

For £1200 you should be able to get what you are looking for i think. Be careful though as condition of cars is pretty variable in this price range. If you could stretch to £1500 you would be more likely to find a better overall condition car.

White is common and not overly popular, they tend to fetch a bit less than mica blue for example though there is probably as much variation pricewise within than between the various colours.

t-bars with leather command a premium, but the leather is pretty rubbish quality and then you run the gauntlet of a leaking t-bar which doesn't go well with leather!

sunroof models are cheaper, the cloth trim nearly always is mint in condition and wears really well, plus the sunroof cars have better rigidity so handling is better. Though t-bars are not terrible by any means.

read the guide, print it out and take it with you when you go to look at cars as it'll pay to be thorough later on.

Remember the oldest of MK1s is 20 years old and the youngest 15 so take your time to look for one that has had some TLC.

Another option is that you could do what i did. I spent £1210 in total on mine.

Bought it for £350
arch replacement panels £310
bodyshop labour/paint= £550 (i had some other bits done on top of wheel arches)

I did this on the premise that all MK1s will by this point have had their arches replaced if they are any good, ie all will need work doing to them by this point (apart from JDM cars). So you may as well buy a car that is mechanically sound really cheap then spend some money on getting it up to scratch, because if you buy a car in good condition that someone else has replaced the arches on it will cost you more.

i'd say my car is worth £1800 on a good day, yet its cost me £1210 so i'm still in pocket hopefully!

Choice is yours but thought the leftfield angle might be worth a thought.

Hey Chris,

I've got a few pictures of yours at that reading meet a few years back (where i also had the "pleasure" of meeting Shaf...). They are the ones that Rob B took - you want them?

Good to see you heading back in the right direction though! Did that auction on the st185 work?

Ello old chap - nice to see you about again!

I still have all those pics from the Reading meet on CD somewhere but have nowhere to host them on the net.

I will have a think and send you an email if I work out how to host them.

Mr Butcher,

Get a photobucket account - most useful for hosting stuff, plus you can upload loads of pictures at the same time,

Cheers

I'm not rubbing it in Steve, honest! Although it hasn't cost me a fortune you could add another £300 in small items i've spent ranging from number plates to decals and aerials.

The cost doesn't include all my labour and time which i've put into it which is considerable. I think if you had paid to get it to where it is now it would have cost you a lot more unless you did all the work yourself.

Yes it looks pretty good these days, but i've worked pretty hard to get there.

What do you mean 'other than at trackdays!' ? ;)
