MR2 Turbo Pricing, fair price? NOW WITH DEKRA INSPECTION

Post by puntoturbo »

My old mans in the process of looking at an rev 4 mr2 turbo, the cars a 1996/1997 on a P plate. the cars a t-bar with half leather/alcantara. the spec is as follows

he says its 260hp standard, i thought all turbos were 220/240hp standard?
36k miles
lowered (uknown amount)
lexus gs300 18's
running 1.1 bar of boost (he's quoting 300hp)
water injection
exhuast
filter
black lexus rear lights
rev 5 spoiler
clear front indicators

the cars up for £7k and have managed to get it down to £6400 so far, i'm going to have an inspection done by the AA as the cars a good few miles away and to far to travel to find out that its not in mint condtion

do you think £6400 is a fair price?

£6400 is a fair price for a Rev 4 Turbo with T-Bar!!!!

Snap his hand off if it's got FSH and looks to be a clean example!

Sound too cheap to me.

I have been looking for a good rev 2, but would be doing well to find one under the £4,500 mark.

If its a genuine 96 (that a P plate) then it sounds cheap.

Check things like the small white tags attached to the bottom of the seatbelt for a year of manufacture.

Get some pics and post them here.

Sounds alot like shahids car,I saw this advertised on Autotrader and it said in the ad that it was damaged repaired. This would explain the cheap price, as good rev 4 turbo's go for alot more than this
Are these the add details?

No,all rev 3,4,5's were officially 245ps but some totally standard cars have been found to be putting out slightly more power than this

245ps equals 241bhp!
none were 250/260.

all rev3/4/5s were 241bhp standard.

but like someone mentioned, if its in 100% condition, the standard engine could infact be pushing 245-250bhp, if your very lucky, and i mean lucky, lol!

so running 1.1bar of boost you'll be looking at around 270/280hp?

It depends on condition, colour, and basically how much someone is willing to pay for it.Rev 4's and 5's are rare, you may find one cheap as you have done, but there's usually a reason for them being cheap,as you have found out,but I'd say a tip top low mileage standard rev 4 turbo's = 9 to 10 k,rev 5's slightly more.Don't forget due to the new ESVA rules there are no more rev 4's and 5's coming into the country,so the value of these cars should hold steady :)

Wasn't sure just remembered reading somewhere that they push a little more horses that the earlier revisions and that some people have found them to be pushing 250-260bhp with no mods. 240/260 its all the same to me, still chuffing quick

here is an idea of price, I think i have sold my Rev3 GT turbo Tbar in met green with 66000 on clock with all MOTs to prove, past a RAC inspection with a few minor faults, with private plate, standard wheels and 17" lexus wheels, double din toyota CD,cassette Radio,Mech and body is totally standard for £4800, so £7000+ for 2 years younger and not that much difference seems a lot of money especially an insurance write off as you will have problem selling it,

ehh, bit of a generalisation. For instance, it would be robbery if this car (below) went for £7000, as its worth soooo much more. Mint condition rev4. Defo worth £10k. (this one anyway)

Image

So it varys so very much. Its prob not too bad a price if its crash damaged but fixed ok.

Just check the engine bay is his
