Would you keep the Mk3, or sell it & buy a Mk2 ?

Keep the Mk3 or buy a tubby ?

Post by MisterL »

After joining this site, I'm now in a bit of a quandary.
I was happy with my Mk3 Roadster, but now I'm thinking of a Mk2 T-Bar turbo ?
What should I do ? Tune the Mk3, or sell it and buy a tubby ?
What are the dos and don'ts of tubby buying ?

It depends on what you want.

You could always turbo the roadster, I have a friend who did this and it worked pretty well. 220bhp/lbft is an impressive car. But, its not cheap to do this.

A tubby is nothing like a MK3 to drive. The MK3 is pretty light and chuckable, the tubby is much faster in a straight line, but carries extra weight. Its a comfortable cruising type car that will eat up motorway miles all day long. I daresay you can have some fun in it round twisty roads, but its not as involving as a MK3 to drive.

You are mad doing a poll btw, as there are a lot of tubby owners on here, so it won't be hard to guess how they are going to vote!

I would defo go for a MK2 turbo over a MK3......based on power, looks and comfortability

See if you can find a garage who have a tubby for sale and take it for a test drive, or someone at the local meets will probably take you out in theirs, be warned though, drive one & you'll want one :)

A turbo'd MK3 is a lot more unique IMO but If you want silly power sell the MK3 and spend all the money on tuning a decent rev 3 Tub

no question, turbo the mk3. Will cost a bit between £2000 - £3000, I believe a few companies do kits now, HKS, Greddy etc

you'll have a very rare, very fast little roadster then.

The Mk3 is a bit girly, plus you cant fit your golf clubs in it.
