Shipping from the US ….

Post by Bender Unit »

Has anyone shipped a turbo / manifold / down pipe from the US and if so how much did it cost? I have bought a turbo kit and the seller is now saying postage is going to cost $300 or more! Which is really stretching the bounds of reality? It’s at the point where I may just get a cheap ticket and go and collect it myself.

If anyone has had similar shipped can you let me know what it cost.

Regards

Nothing like that -but for general parts from the US you'll get stung for:

10% of the US value including P&P as import duty
17.5% on top of all of the above including the import duty

plus the hanling fee. Parcelforce charge 13.50ish usually, other couriers (may have been UPS) charge upto £37

Import tax on automotive products is 2% IIRC, if the supplier is nice (twosrus) they'll put a lower value than what you paid on the box and you'll be charged less. Or even better they'll put 'commercial sample' on the customs label and you'll be charged nothing by HM customs (a-1injectors). :D 8)

Not worried about the tax etc as its a game of hit and miss and you may as well run the gauntlet so to speak and take a chance. I have done some digging and I could have the packaged shipped to me this week to arrive friday and it would only cost £98 so where this guy is getting his shiping costs from I do not know.

Hi James,

As a guide a parcel that weighed 44lbs cost me $147 to get shipped by air mail.

Turbo kits inc turbo, wastegate, manifold and downpipe oil lines etc will be heavy! $300 seems very high though!
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

Looks to me like he's covering his ar5e

If you go onto the USPS website and see how much the heaviest parcel they'll do is (69lb 11oz) its $298 to the UK.

Ask him how much the parcel will weigh?

Hi Steve,

I am chasing this guy for the package weight but he is one of those who hardly ever respond to his emails and if he does then its 1 line of response which doesn’t answer any of the questions you asked! If it costs that much then so be it, but USPS will do it for £100 odd for 4-10 days which is fine for me.

What was in your 44lbs package, so I can get an idea of how close they may be weight wise?

Cheers

parcel2go will ship anything upto 25kg for ~£70 in 3-5 days

you organise it over the internet. They will go to his address and pick it up, he signs something and they then deliver it. He doesnt have to pay anything.

The 44lbs was a spec stage 3 F plate clutch with stock flywheel and my new fuel system :D

My T67 kit was shipped about a week ago, should know in a day or so how much that package weighed :)

Well that would have been a decent weight, stock FW is soooooo heavy, clutch unit is also quite weighty so maybe around 50lbs /60 lbs for the package weight. Could you let me know how much your turbo kit costs to ship, are you doing COD or have you paid in advance?

Cheers
