UK conversion work

Post by benji »

Can anyone tell me what work is necessary for a jap import to be converted to uk spec?

It's just that the guy i might be buying a turbo from says that things like radio expander, fuel neck restrictor etc is not necessary - is this true?

The following can be done to convert Jap for English road use:

Rear fog light - Required for SVA and/or MOT

Speedo Conversion - Required for SVA but you can get away without for MOT. Can be done by either speedo fasica replacement, speedo convertor (either cable or electronic depending on revision of car) or installing a UK clock.

Radio Band Expander - Not required - Most jap head units are poor anyway, be easier just buying an english radio/cd/mp3 player.

Fuel neck restrictor - Required for SVA only.

Clear sidelights - required for SVA and/or MOT, sometimes you can pass an MOT with the orange side lights depending on how easy going the tester is.

Thats about it. Hope that helps.

ok thanks for the reply. just out of interest how much would you say a 1992 gts turbo, 65k miles with aftermarket alloys, adjustable suspension, twin exhaust, induction kit, steering wheel and boost gauge is worth roughly?

I'd say approximately 3K for an 'ok' condition one, theres been a slump in the market recently and they dont seem to be holding there price very well.

3.5K-4.5K for a mint one if your lucky thats advertised well?
