Easy mate - Even I did mine!! :D

http://mr2.noegruts.com/engine/engine.htm

Follow the HT leads from the spark plugs to the left of the engine bay and it will lead you to your distributor cap.

When I was replacing the rotor arm on mine, one of the screws wouldn't turn so I did as someone else on here did and just snapped the rotor arm off.

Replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm and no momre bucking!! It worked great, but wouldn't have been able to do it without the advice I obtained from people on IMOC!!

So..... THANKS EVERYONE!!

it's pretty easy - this should help:

http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanical/ ... system.htm

you'll need a small flat head screwdriver to undo the electrical plug

long cross head screwdriver or a spanner to undo the distributer cap.

The rotor arm just slots into the distributer.

Note - moving the distributer changes your car's timing. Either put it on exactly how it came off (paint some marks linking the distributer and engine) or get your timing checked when you've finished (you'll need a timing light though).

2 links in one minute! that's what I call service. :D

ps if you remove the dizzy cap, make sure you don't get the HT leads mixed up, else your car won't go.

Make sure each lead goes back into the correct plug and you'll be OK.

He doesn't need to move the dizzy, he's just changing the rotor and cap....

I stand corrected.

I was stripping my engine down so just took the whole lot off without really looking at it. Should make the job easier for jimGTS then.

cheers peeps!

so i dont have to worry about the timing then??? thats only if i replaced the the whole unit right???

i should imagine itll become clear once i receive the 2 parts from mr t, i should get a good idea of how they fit to the car.

no you dont have to worry about the timing. you are leaving the dizzy in situ, while just removing the cap :)

so all i need to do is unplug the 4 leads from the cap. take one screw off for the cap, and one screw off for the arm, replace the parts, and screw back up again???

will it become alot clearer when ive taken the old cap off what i have to do and how i do it???
also, what can i expect to find in there?? lots of crap and gunk???

cheers peeps!

-Unplug the 4 HT leads and the king lead from the Coil pack
- Remove the 2 screws that hold the cap onto the dizzy
- Pull the dizzy off
- Remove the 1 screw in the center of the rotor
- pull the rotor off

Instalation is reversal or removal (god I sound like a Haynes)

All what you will find in the cap is maybe a bit of dust and you will see that the 4 contacts in the cap (one to each lead) are worn away somewhat

Yep  Once unclipped pull the HT leads by the rubber boot/plastic clip

No problem, it's pee easy ;)

All parts (rotor and cap) are asymmetrical so theres no confusion putting them on the correct way or whatever. It should take you 5 minutes
