tps wiring

Post by Fonzy »

on the rev2 loom there are 4 wires to the throttle position sensor (tps), on the edelbrock throttle body i have there are only three wires, so im wandering how i should match these up, needless to say i am looking into this further, but i thought perhaps some wiring guru might have the knowhow.
Cheers

heres the way i see it,all 3 wire sensors have the following...

1x earth
1x power feed (usually 5v)
1x signal wire to ecu

im presuming thats what your new TPS has,the problem is that the 4 wire mk2 turbo TPS has an extra wire for the idle switch setting. This wire which is pink and runs to the ecu informs the ecu when your engine is idling and when you come off idle.....there will be no problem wiring up the 3 wire TPS to work but it wont have the idle circuit.

Your current 4 wires are as follows....

1x pink idle wire to pin c12
1x white signal wire to c11
1x brown wire to turbo pressure sensor and map
1x red/blue wire also to turbo sensor and map

Ive no idea how you would incorporate your new 3 wire sensor into the map and turbo sensor....if i were you id definately find a way to use the turbo TPS on your new throttle body, that is by far the easiest solution.

just had a look at edelbrock page, the tps looks fixed and non adjustable...it looks like the easy fix is to mount your turbo tps onto the edelbrock.Id make a thin ally mounting plate that fastens to the brock and then slotted holes in that to secure your turbo tps to.....this way you have no wiring issues to worry about.

Running a different TPS shouldn't matter if your using a standalone EMS, which i presume you are?

Yeah, but the loom cannot accomodate your throttle body without a good amount of fiddling. So IF your not using the standard ECU, the wires can simply be hard wired in the standalone making life easy.

Am in the same boat, though am getting a new loom made up :D
