Are strut braces only found on T-bars as standard?

Post by The TVIS Kid »

My mk1b T-bar has a front strut brace but when looking at a sunroof model there wasn't one. Is it just to keep the rigidity of the car due to the t-bar roof (which is what i would think)?

just to be pedantic yes to UK spec cars, but in some countries Australia for one sunroof (moonroof) cars had the front strut brace. Some US spec cars even have one that is kinked so that you can stow the sunroof in the "frunk"

I have a strutbrace from a T-Bar car in my Moonroof car. But I put it there

Only problem now is I have nowhere decent to store the roof when I remove it... ](*,)

The strutbar was std on the mk1b, only the RHD cars only had one when being a T-bar of hardtop version, sunroofs didn't have one.

I'm not sure how much work is needed to make the sunroofstrutbar fit on RHD car, but i'm willing to let it go with a 20% discount to members of this forum ;)

Wasn't the sunroof stashed (if present - bet few people wanted one in OZ, prefer a tin top with AC!), in a protective bag behind the passenger seat?

Correct, because they had the straight strutbar also, due to which the sunroof woudn't fit no more ;)

To be complete:

MK1A:
All models: no front strutbar

MK1B
T-bar models: straight strutbar
Hardtop models: straight strutbar
Sunroof models: LHD cars had a bend strutbar, RHD models had no strutbar except for the OZ cars, which had a straight strutbar and stored the sunroof behind the seats.

Perhaps Rhon could create something?? - maybe use the harnesses off the t-bar ?? - could be worth a try!
