anyone with rev1/2 colour coded there side strips???

Post by jimGTS »

thought about updating the car slightly in a few months time.
can i easily take these strips off (including lower front lip and rear lips, as well as the lower side sills)??? so i can hand them to a body shop!

or do i give them the car, and they just spray as is???

oh, i also thought about spraying the rear panel as well.

Front panel - remove off and paint, the rest - just leave it on the car... takes quite a bit of labour to pull them off and even still, you cannot remove the ones on the doors without permantant deformation.

Lower cils and rear bumper - paint on the car.. easy to mask off

Rear panel in body colour... unless its the rev 3 panel or a smooth panel, I think it looks pants... ! its looks far better being black !

i want to keep the rear panel though, gives me an excuse to keep my el glo badge!, yeh and obviously, that would be sprayed black as well.
(if it were any other colour, the panel would look pretty pants i guess).

I have pics of doing all this I will upload tonight and show you tomorrow. All pretty simple stuff. Difference is pretty huge IMHO. Really updates the car.

When I had a REV2 UK N/A car I also decided to up-date it but just gave mine to a body shop who did an excellent job spraying them on the car without removing them. :D

just got my car back from the paint shop last week, had some damage to the door repaired and also got the sills, front and rear skirts and sidestrips all colour coded black - it totally transforms the look of the car, takes 5 years off it !!!

Jim,

Right photos up now.

http://www.13awingfield.com/cgi-bin/gal ... lourcoding

They are just a collection of different points in the work. Getting the front off was a PITA but worth it...otherways getting the paint to totally cover the black would have been a nightmare. Just as a note the four picture that shows all the masking off the side still actually has a strip of masking at the very buttom...where the sill has a crease metal join at the very bottom...type thing if that makes sesne??

I have not really taken any photos since I did of the car afterwards as car is dirtier than some of Shaf employees and it is too cold during winter to give it a good wash and wax...but trust me it looks so much better.

Enjoy
