MOT problem - no catalytic converter!

Post by Ms Croft »

Hi guys, like most people.. I should have a catalytic converter on my MR2 as its a 1999 (should have one as standard) but last year I bought a new straight through mongoose exhaust system, I kept my old toyota exhaust so that I could change the cat over with the straight through pipe for my MOT so that it wouldnt fail.

HOWEVER, my stupid mate (whos garage I left my old exhaust in) threw the whole lot out.. even though I must have told him a million times NOT to throw out the cat converter becoz I would need it again!!! doh #-o

anyways.. does anyone have any suggestions... i.e anywhere I could get my hands on a cat converter cheap.. as I would only need it for one day lol..

Dale... Craig.. can you lend me one?? lol [-o<

cheers for any help :)

Yeah I have a spare cat, but I doubt it would fit, you would probably need my exhaust too doh #-o

measure the length of the decat from the very edge of one flange to the other, you never know, mine might fit. my cat is 45cm....

I was in the same position last year, I ended up buying a new one for £140 :( I only had it on the car for an hour too ](*,)

I really don't know to be honest :-s
I always used to get an emissions printout stapled on the old style A5 watermarked MOT cert also..
again without a CAT

not sure but i guess another car there is the only way - don't know if it has to be the same make and model :-k - just shove the sensor in a bacon bap and take those readings

not exactly foolproof or worth the paper it's written on then is it if a test result can be overwritten by just typing it in.

What a crap system.. \:D/

don't know mate - someone like Andi (AM Tuning) would know (he's an MOT garage).

don't think Rogue or 3S do MOT's but could be wrong - I'm sure somone with the knowledge will advise in due course

but as said - even with the new system - it helps if you have a "friend" - such is life i guess !
(just like to point out that my "friend" is not Andi  they are a local garage that know me personally O:) )

Just had to swap the exhausts on my roadster to get it through the MOT. which it passed, no problems - LoL!

If the weather is OK tomorrow I'll be swapping it back to the free-er flowing system :)
