Auto box: what are the buttons for?

Post by 77West »

ok I know I'm a bit rubbish  , but what are the two buttons for which sit by my auto gearstick, labelled Power and Manual, they correspond with an amber LED and a Green LED on the dashboard.

What are these for and how do they work.

cheers

Hi,

I've never owned an auto Mr2, but I'll have a guess.

I would guess that power is the sports mode - box doesnt change up until just before redline, and changes quicker.

I would guess that manual means that the box stays in the gear that you have selected without changing at all, until you move the stick??

Cheers,

Paul.

sounds feasible to me! But whats the little red one for to the left of the gear stick which is labelled with a japanese word?

By the way I found overdrive so not a complete spaz.

If the box works the same as the Supra Auto box, then the little red button is to allow you to take the stick out of park when the engine is off and the key is out of the ignition.

Kind of a safety override feature.

Hold it down and move the stick....but DONT FORGET to move it back to park before you start it!! :D

Is that the one that allows you to shift through the box without the ignition being on?

Ok power makes it run to the peak power point and shift up later than when in economy mode. It will hold the same gear longer before shifting up too.

Manual, basically means that you have to shift through the gears, so if you stop with it in second and go to pull away it won't change down to first.

yep the red button is so that if you turn it off with it in drive or 1 or 2, you can get it to neutral or park to enable you to start it.

HTH

PS i borrowed an auto SC a couple of years back, the MK2 autobox is the same as the auto SC.
