Videos from Essex III Rolling Road

Post by BenF »

I've spent this evening sorting out the videos, encoding them and uploading them to the website.

All teh videos have been encoded using the Windows Media video encoder at High Quality settings, full resolution @ 1.5Mbit/s, and typically they're 3-5MB to download each.

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 570wfg.wmv <- Andi's '2 got top power figures
http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... h20trd.wmv <- Mark with top torque figure of the day
http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 427ggp.wmv
http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 845njt.wmv <- Watch for the WI nozzle coming loose and spraying into the air above the engine bay - the car looses massive amounts of boost and runs very rich

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 835xtr.wmv <- Starlet turbo
http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 438snx.wmv <-Aborted run ?
http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 697jlx.wmv

What's your '2s registration? I'll check back though the footage and see what I've got.

Just had a look back through the footage - yes I had got yours, but missed it when I was encoding them up last night .

Easy to fix though - Just sorted it out and uploaded it:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/VideoClips/ ... 617aar.wmv

I'll edit the first post to include this too.

Thanks a lot Ben, the early signs of my engine's ill health are there. Some bad puffs of blue when coming back off the power :( Oh well, she'll be back soon

Which one was yours then? Its normal for Turbos (especially Rev1 and 2s) to occasionally 'chug' some black smoke on a rolling road as the ECU tweaks the fueling.

At the time, I didn't think that any of the '2s that had been on the rollers looked particularly smokey or bad ..

Chris, you'll have to bring your barge along to the next one :)

Mine hasn't got any cats in at the moment (err to be fixed shortly for the MOT emissions test ) and will pop and bang sometimes on the over-run.

What happened in the end? As i'm sure i said (more than once) it really didn't look healthy at any point i was following you.

Wish i'd had the tubby on the road and driven that instead of the Breadvan type R :(

well my BMW boat needs a replacement bottom end, well not so much bottom end bottom half! needs a new block, pistons ect got the dreaded nikasil thing which anyone who's had a BMW E36 320, 323 or 328 or the 4 litre jobby from the 5 series will know is bad!

still when the car is up and running i'll try and get it on the rollers so i can see what the beast will make standard powerwise, then hopefully a change of manifold and other restrictive bit BM put in the thing should see 220bhp at least! miss my MR2 loads as much fun and practical as the BMW is it aint the same!

no cat tut tut ben hehe can't you fit a high flow cat in?

the red UK rev2 with the rev3 tubby engine (k774 pkm). TBH it wasn't too bad on that day but it's slowly got worse and is now burning oil really quickly.

Guys!

Hi im new to this website (ish) but I did a random google search on my MR2 (as you do) and typed in the reg K402 JNV. This thread came up, its the grey MR2 turbo linked as above. I have owned this car for 2 and a half years now and this rolling road video shows it shorty before I bought it. I've lost the contact details of the previous owner of this car and would like to keep comms with him. Does anyone know the power that was made with this car on that day?

Thanks all!

From memory - Frank arranged this day but isn't around here any longer.

It is possible that pictures and figures from this session ended up in a magazine, but I'm not sure which.

my mate owned this....

after taking a ride in my rev2 turbo (he had an NA), he sold his NA within a few weeks and purchased this car from NVI imports......

its made 212atw from what i remember. on that dyno prob bout 270flywheel. but that dyno is optimistic, so prob nearer the 250flywheel area in reality.
