On/Off Switch Found

Looked in my boot today and bolted to the left hand side was an on/off switch.

It was currently switched to the off position, which I then switched to on and waited for something to happen - Nothing.

What do you think this is? It doesn't look like standard equipment, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Should I switch it to the on position and take it for a blast?

Its not a boot light switch is it?

tbh sounds like whoever had the car before you has added a few things of their own.

See if you can trace the wiring and work out what it is.

I wouldn't overly worry about it, you often find little things like this in old cars. I'd check where the wiring goes (this will explain what it does) and if it doesn't go anywhere remove it.

bit of an odd one and bear with me here but I may have the answer......... it may be a tail light/brakelight mod, in the way they light. I'm going to wire my brakes and tail lights so all 4 come on (at the moment its UK spec just outside 2). I also want to keep fogs in the inside 2. The only problem is that for the MOT, you must have dedicated fogs - so a switch will go between the brake lights to prevent the inner 2 coming on and so I'll have my dedicated fogs back! Thanks to Stef for explaining how to do this!

could be an aerial switch to turn the motorised aerial off? I know some people fit them cos they don't like having the aerial up all the time when they are listening to cds etc?

Could be a switch to the power for the ECU. So that you can reset the ECU by turning the switch off for two minutes or so?

Maybe a switch to control an audio amplifier or something similar?
I usually fit stuff like this to my car audio, although the switch(es) go in the cockpit where I can get to them easily.

Following the wires, it doesn't look like anything to increase performance. . The wires seem to lead to the back panel so Leeroy you may be right. However, I thought the imports already are set up as 4 tail lights and two brake lights?

I'll play around with it later.

ermmmmmmm....... well imports are not normally set up to have 4 tail lights and 4 brakes connected, normally its one or the other....... I imagine they had 4 tail lights and added the extra 2 brake lights
