Engine cleaning

Stripping down the turbo motor tonight and cleaning it up.... doesn't it look teeny once all the crap is taken off?

Incidentally, carb cleaner, diesel, and a bit of premium unleaded shift the oil and gunk off really well (looks like a good motor - valves are quite clean viewed through the inlet ports, very little oil around, just generally crap and accumlated gunk on the block)... but boy do they give off some funky fumes

are you going into the block? or just external?!.

i used some stuff that was based on citric acid ('lemon juice!!) it was damned awesome.. called 'citriclean' leaving all the alluminium parts in a bath of that, came back next day,honestly..gleaming. if i had a tub left, shame!. not sure its commerce avail, 'borrowed' it from old company who had yards of the stuff for degreasing machined ally.

Just external for now - degreasing the block and the head, cleaning the timing cover etc. Will probably remove the cam covers and give them a nice polish and re-do the painted 'Toyota' and 'Twin Cam Ceramics Powered' lettering on the covers and inlet manifold.

There's not too much carbon around the ports and the timing belt looks brand new, along with the oil pump. Looks like its been cared for anyway.

Also picked up the Supra CT26A yesterday, looks mint! So I'll be stripping that one down too and giving the intake housing a bit of a polish.

I find liquid brake cleaner is up for anything for stripping grease ... if you want to clean but leave the surface protected, then parrafins just the job too.... stops surface rust from forming in a hurry. !
