It could be either frozen coolant or an air lock. I recently had an airlock caused by a coolant leak.

Hi Mate,

Its a water system, theres two long metal pipes that go out of the engine, down to and over the fuel tank then they come up under the bonnet and go in to the back of the dash from there.

Check under the radiator cap and see how much water you've got left, if he drained the coolant he might not have bleed it properly so it could just be an airlock.

Also toyota coolant is a red ribeena colour when new or muddy brown rusty colour when old.

Hope this helps

feel free 2 laugh at me 4 this question as i would, but where do you check your coolant level? the coolant level tube seems to be misty to the point of not being able to see through it? also just popped to the car and removed the rad cap and can see no water at all!! if i squeeze the pipe further along i can hear some fluid movement. do i take it i just fill with water or with more coolant?

Check at the rad cap, there should be coolant almost right up to the brim.

Also check the expansion tank (if you can) - use the long black rubber tube as a dipstick sort of thing.

Hi Mate,

The tube your talking about is the one that oes into the expansion bottle (white plastic bottle attached to the boot side of the engine bay) this is a storage/expansion tank. This should have some in it as its where the system pulls more in if its low or pushes out any excess.

I always look under the radiator cap to check mine, then I top it up with some pre-mixed coolant that I bought from MR T. You dont have to use MR T stuff, I did for pure convinience as its pre mixed and I did a complete coolant change. You can use some non branded from halfords and the like but I cant remember the exact spec (I am sure some one will be a long in a mo to confirm what it is though)

I wouldn't use water unless you have no other choice AND you plan to drain it all out and re-fill over the weekend

Mate,

If your coolant has frozen then what everyou do DONT start it till this afternoon and hope that the heat from the day has defrosted it.

Saying that I would be very suprised if it has frozen, espeically if you can here it all move when you squeeze the pipes,

Get some coolant, top it up from under the rad cap, till its full, top up the expansion tank.

then have a look at

http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanical/ ... system.htm

Should help you to get rid of any air locks in the system
