Check error code.
9/10 its the afm, dissconnect the plug, check for damage or water in the pins, reconnect, reset ecu then try. If this doesnt help you will need to do some continuity check to and from the ecu, if all is well, most likely the afm has given up.

Check for a spark firstly... pull off no.1 spark plug ( drivers side ) attach a plug to the plug lead, earth it out on the engine.. get someone to crank it over whilst your holding it with a pair of insulated pliers ... check for a spark.

The get back on here ! :eye:

Not always I'm afraid. The Mk2s engine management isn't that clever ..

This to me sounds like a dead or disconnected sensor somwhere.

Thanks for clarifying, mine seems fine now just been for a good 1/2 hours drive. Dont have a clue what was causing my backfire or melted fuse box! Fingers crossed it doesnt come back. [-o< :D

Hey ben, when the coil dies off properly... then an error code is thrown... as theres no resistance through the coil ( totally blown ) ( no switching earth found ! )

I've come across a few easy diagnosis like this !
