[Mk2 NA] Can I run a MAP sensor?

Post by Goldy »

I'm running out of space in my engine bay at the moment and I need a bit more flexibility, as well as this I think my AFM will max out when the supercharger comes on boost.

I was wondering if it is possible to run a MAP sensor instead of an AFM on my engine running standard ecu and an Apexi SAFC2.

Are the outputs from a map sensor comparable to an AFM?
Does anyone have any values for the output of a MAP sensor?
The SAFC has functions to run from MAP or AFM but i'm still not sure if this will work?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks -

Simon

Have you supercharged a n/a engine with afm?
I know the turbo ecu's with afms are pretty good up to 15psi.

Yes my car is an n/a engine with an AFM the UK 3S-FE engine... the afm goes upto about 75% at the moment when I put my foot down, the supercharger is going to chuck in about 30% more air so i'm expecting this to max out in an ideal world.

try a rev3 turbo ecu and loom, can see why a bit of cutting and snipping couldnt have it running.

Wouldnt have thought the rev3 tubby ecu would work with rev1 n/a engine at all? aren't the engines completely different :?:

the basics are the same, you would need a few other bits like map sensor, ignitor, knock sensor, and injectors (unless you can alter the fueling) but i know it is possible, the question is, has anyone else done it and what happened.

The main points being that the firing order is the same, and the distributors are the same, so the rest is a bit of fiddling, cutting and shutting.

I cant see why it wouldnt work very well for your setup. Another person to checkout my theory with would be patrick at rogue.
