[MK 2] problems with PC9-406 adapter

I did a search and it sounds like several people have integrated aftermarket head units into the premium system using the PC9-406 adapter from Autoleads. Has anyone ever had any problems with this adapter, specifically with it NOT fitting the stock 14-pin harness? Additionally, does anyone know why it might not work on a US-spec car?

Background:
I started a thread about this adapter over on MR2oc.com. I ordered one out of curiosity, to see if it was the plug-n-play solution we'd been hoping for. The plug seemed to be the right configuration, and all the leads seemed to connect to the right places. After taking a few pictures, I sent it off to another board member who was doing an install. He reported back that the female 14-pin plug on the autoleads harness was too small to connect to the stock plug.

So now I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Two possibilities spring to mind:

1) The stock plugs on US spec and UK spec MR2s with the premium system are different.

2) The autoleads part I was sent is deffective; that is, someone grabbed a plug from the wrong bin of parts when they were making the harness.

Neither of these strike me as terribly likely, but who knows.

So, any thoughts? Does anyone have some pictures of the stock 14 pin harness plug on a UK spec car they care to share for comparison?

I scavenged a female 14 pin plug from my knackered 3-n-1 when I did my install a few years back, so I don't have any personal need for the harness, but the curiosity is killing me.

This may be a silly question, but when I came to do this job on my car (MR-2 Spyder) I went to plug the autoleads lead in, only to find it wouldn't fit..

As I hunted a bit further down the Toyota cable, I found that what plugged into the back of the stereo was actually a sub-harness that needed unplugging - once I did that, the Autoleads leads plugged in to what was left.

If that makes any sense

Maybe something like that on that particular model of Mk2?

Not sure if this relates to the problem but...

When I installed my Sony headunit, I had.
Car wiring block -> PC2-17-4 (I have no active system) -> sub adaptor (supplied with headunit) -> headunit.

The sub adaptor branches to what could be a 'new standard interface' for headunits - or it could simply be a Sony specific one at the back of the headunit. Although the install I did yesterday for my wifes FTO was exactly the same setup with her Alpine unit.

UPDATE: I think we got this straightened out. The owner I sent the harness to had a car from the transition period, and actually had the newer 15 pin connector on his end. So not suprisingly, the PC9-406 didn't fit. I'm confident it will work with the earlier 14-pin connector. Thanks for the replies.
