Stereo not storing preset stations

Post by stevenb »

Hi

I have a Pioneer radio casette player with an arc tuner.
if I preset the stations they are not holding for long.
e.g. two days ago, I chose my first 6 preset stations. I locked them in and then flicked between them to check they were working....they were. I then came back and checked the stereo about 5 mins later. I turned it on and checked the presets and they were all fine........so I thought great...all sorted. I put the car away for the night in the garage and next morning turned on the radio and they had all reset themselves. tried aain yesterday....same thing....it's not storing the stations for any more than 10 mins or so....... :?
I've never come across this before....
Any answers at all?

head units have 2 power feeds - a permanant 12v feed, and a ignition 12v feed (some have a 3rd for illumination, but I'll ignore this for now)

I suspect someones got these first 2 the wrong way round.

The ignition feed is designed to light up the stereo and get it working, but the permanant feed keeps the station memorys etc.

Having them the "wrong" way round will mean your stereo will work without the key in, but it does mean memory gets wiped after each drive.

The HU may have capacitors that store stations for 5 or 10 minutes, but not overnight.

Try swapping the red and yellow wires on the HU harness, and see if this helps. (If you car has an illumination feed, this will be orange.)

Hope this helps

Thanks Ian.
I did notice that the HU won't work without the key........ :-k
Someone has changed the stereo from a Blaupunkt to this current Pioneer in the past.....the Pioneer stereo is old.....I'll check the wiring. If it's good then I'll assume the stereo is fooked.....
