It looks nice and sounds a good deal better than the toyota unit. The HU sits totally flush and as expected the suround for the facia doesnt quite sit right but you cant really tell and it doesnt interfere with the removal of the facia so I am quite happy. Total costs.- £137- £10- £4 (ouch!)- £17£40 installation costs by DIY. Its not so hard but I have a poor track record!
..im just curious as im about to install a new Pioneer HU myself...and like you i had the passive sound system. I think different manufacturers favour differnet types. So the ariel from your car is always the point type right, so coming out of my alpine was a similar looking thing. So I needed an adaptor to convert it and make it fit. Be careful as when you disconnect the hazard switch your indicators wont work anymore - so make sure you got all the bits before you start. Do you mean when taking the dash apart? 
- when you take the plastic dash pannel out you have to unplug the hazard button. But it scuppers your indicators! probvably a broken circuit or something.
