New Events, Drives and Meets!

Post by blue2 »

Ok, I have just read some posts on the elections forum. Its plain to see that a couple of members are unhappy with the way IMOC is going. I have to disagree as I think that this is a great site but I have an idea that would generate new interest. Here goes!
How about instead of having meetings were everyone meets up in a car park and chats for ages (which is good!) what we should do is organise regular (possibly monthly) meetings around the country with planned meeting places and planned routes to drive. The recent "run to the lakes" meeting was a great succes and enjoyed by everyone with people travelling quite a distance to attend.
If everyone was into this a new forum could possibly be created for ideas for locations then possible routes could be put forward and agreed by everyone.
I also think that this would be great publicity for IMOC and would recruit many new members who have yet to hear about this site. This is quite a big idea but its been on my mind for a while now and I have to put it forward. Think about how many great places there are to drive. They would/could incorporate members from all different places North,South,East and West therefore a lot of mr2's to ogle at!
Hopefully this is the correct forum to post my idea (suggestions and not events). Anyway I think it would be great to try and organise something like this regularly. Obviously there are already a load of brilliant events organised by IMOC and its members, this idea is just something a bit different. What do you think, dont hold back!! :D

No reason why you couldn't initiate something like this anyway if you liked, I hope IMOC is about just getting on with it and using this board to publicise it!

what it needs is a couple of people from each area of the country-that know the roads obviously! to see if they can think up some good routes, i don't mind being involved in setting up some surrey/sussex ones

Perhaps we could post this up under events and see if we get any volunteers to help plan some maps?

Sounds good to me. But arent IMOC are in the process of nomintaing an Events Organiser. Im not too sure as there was some debate over this a couple of days ago. I think it would be too much work for just 1 person to handle. Six or seven people would probably be enough to spread the work load a bit, say 1 volunteer from 1 area of the UK north, south, east etc etc.
Only question bieng, is this what IMOC members want? Will there be a good turnout at each meet? Hopefully the answer is YES!!

I think they usually will be good turnouts, the "static" meets generally generate good interest I think(although I've only been to one!)

I think 6 or 7 people sounds about right, when posting details of planned routes we can post links to route planners with maps(like theaa.com)

So, shall we start a new thread under events?

i don't mind kicking it off (i'll give the credit to you tho!)

That sounds cool! But I think we need to decide how many meets are to be run throughout the year first, would 1 per month be too many or too few.
Also one of the main points of this idea is to change the way meets are run ie: instead of just going to 1 local area with its local members, we incorporate other areas in 1 longish drive around 1 certain large area of the UK and end up at a predetermined meeting place for a bbq/beers. These would hopefully get a lot more interest and also encourage more members. Taking this 1 step further, 1 big event could be arranged for 1 weekend per year where we meet and do a long distance drive stopping somewhere overnight for bbq's and beers.
There is already a meet planeed for mid oct in Derbyshire which im planning on attending so I think the interest is there. If you want to it would be great if you could kick this off in the events as I have been going on about it a bit lately and it would sound good being said by someone else!!
Thanks a lot

:D hi, i,ve been running the imoc meets in norwich now for a while. these are held on one sunday every month, and i try to get a run out for all the members every meet. this months is on the 16th october and in conjunction with mr2oc/ mr2roc/ mk1 etc we will be having a good run from norwich to ipswich to meet up with boys and girls from suffolk and then on to meet up with the essex crew to gatecrash thier rolling road day. (hoping to get up to 50 mr2,s out on that day) . some good ideas here, i will try to incorperate a map of where we are going in with the monthly meet posts. jim :D

We already have a number of events organiser and more and more people are taking on this role in their region, so the people are already there tbh. The new role is for an events admin position which basically means they will be responsible for JAE and assisting/co-ordinating the existing regional event organisers.

Some organisers sort out specific shows for eg; Michaels' cracking job with TOTB and Jo's top effort at Santa Pod. Then you have others that organise drives out and local meets etc.. have a look in the events section and you will see who these people are.

We could regionalise people i guess. I would think that this kind of thing would come up when we get the new events admin on board which is how it should be really.

Some good ideas there though. :thumright:
