Hi guys, I'm needing some new tires for the mr2 and I'm getting a little confused with the tire size thread, I can see that the tires I'm looking at are listed but not sure if I have the right set up, apologies for those reading this thinking its been asked a million times.
Current set up is 215/40/17 on the fronts and 225/45/17 on the rear, is this the correct tire sizes to go for? Not sure on the width of the actual rims as couldn't find size or manufacturer on the rims however I would get they are 8J .

The stock sizes on rev2 onwards for 15" was 195/55/15 front and 225/50/15 rear.
For 17" depending on width I would go for 215/40/17 front and either 245/40/17 or 245/35/17 rear to keep the rolling radius as close as possible to stock and width difference 30mm (personally I would go with 40 profile on rear for better ride quality but be wary, your speedo will slightly under read what it would compared to stock 15" sizes)
I was concerned going bigger as going over unexpected drains it rubs on the rear right side, can't see any wear on the tire or inner arch but presumed the tires were about as big as they could be without constant rubbing. Perhaps it's just a dud shock as it only happens on one side over bumps rather then because of tire size?

Definitely sounds like you have a problem, I would get that seem to first but also your 45 profile is overkill, even a 40 is bigger than stock radius but closer and will give you a tiny bit more arch gap
Compared the 225 and the 235 at the garage and ended up sticking with 225. Can get trade price tires from one particular place and the quality compared to cost just made sense to stick to 225. Eventually in the future I would like coilovers and to change my wheels so at that stage I will probably look at 235 or 245 depending on how they fit and fork out the extra cash. Really wanted the 235 this time round but was just too costly for me but I at least know now my tires aren't wrong necessarily, just not the ideal size.
