Am I hitting fuel cut off?????

Post by b8ucks »

After fitting my downpipe the other day I drove my car for the first proper time today. Gave it some and when I hit around 5000revs i lost boost and power very sharply- just like hitting fuel cut off.
However the engine management light came on at the same time (little orange one in the bottom left of instrument cluster). Does this happen when you hit fuel cut off?
It now does this EVERY time (and the light comes on)I try to accelerate past around 3000revs.
The car used to have a fuel cut off defender at some point but the previous owner took it off for some reason, but the car never hit cut-off even though it's running 1bar (14.5psi).
Is this fuel cut off or something more serious? I'm hoping that by addingthe downpipe I've gained a few psi which is responsible for the problem.
I do have a FCD but the colours don't match up with the car:
FCD (3 wires): red, black and green wire
Car (3 wires): blue and brown (both crimped) and red (not crimped)
I need my car back people! The car has turbo back stainless exhaust and MBC and is a 92 rev 2 turbo. Please help!!!

I'm not an expert but it does sound like fuel cut, best way to check is to adjust the mbc and turn the boost down a bit, to say 12psi max and try that. If it works and holds at that pressure then chances are it's fuel cut and nothing serious.
Fingers crossed!

Good idea, check for code 34 as this relates to hitting fuel cut (overboost)

cheers guys. Never checked the codes before so I'm gonna try it this morning and see what I get. Although I beleive it was fuel cut as the car drove fine again last night, and I've been told with fuel cut you can't boost again until you restart the engine. Thanks again

Set boost to .8bar and reset the ECU, if you're running the stock turbo you'll find that 1bar+, you'll hit boost cut.

Stay below 1bar fellar.
