In the process of renovating a 3S GTE

(Mk II Rev II) and pulled the stat housing off at the weekend.

Plan is to do the HFH while I'm in the area.

The housing was thick with rust.

The previous owner had changed the radiator and all the pipes under the car.

Am I looking at the residue of rad replacement work

(system not flushed properly) or something more serious?
The car does loose water but nothing major

(I can see that there is a small leak around the housing

- one of the reasons why I pulled it off).

The oil is all clear as is the inside of the filler cap and rocker cover.

The car has only done 35K miles and been laid up for most of its life.
