1992 Eunos Roadster

Picked up from Stockport Saturday morning:








Most of the barry decal was removed.



During a very careful drive across to South Yorkshire Ted became a bit warm, so blowers on full and that helped bring it down a bit.



Ted made it in the end.

The battery was dead on Sunday morning so after some much appreciated assistance from the neighbourhood we're up and running again for a slightly worrying drive back down to shitty old London.

Cambridge services let me get my first "rules are rules" pic with a Mk2.



Today I've just been messing about removing all the "whorehouse red" flocked interior trim to replace it with original trim tomorrow.

Overspray on the driver's seat. I mean REALLY who manages that?



Bits removed including an incredibly heavy subwoofer from the boot.



Interior ready for new trim. I'll be putting proper door cards in and putting door pulls back in tomorrow.



Sexy patina on the badge. Very vintage, sir. Much classic.



So all in all - the temperature issue seems to be the fans not kicking in when they should so I have tested the fan switch above the thermostat housing and have ordered a working second hand on to wire in when it arrives. Until then I might just bodge it so they're on all the time, but it should be here in a couple of days.

The "real Rotas, blud!" are going up for sell soon so hopefully someone will bite my hand off for those.

List of jobs:

- Fit interior trim
- Fit new fan switch sensor
- Flush/backflush rad - possibly replace it
- "Borrow" my dad's oil cooler off his dormant Triumph
- Rewire rear fog light
- Replace driver's side window motor/regulator
- Fit BBS, probably order a hub buddies kit to flush them out
- Get those front arches sorted out and touched up
- Get a hardtop
- Get some better seats (I feel like I'm sitting too high up)
- Sell xxxx I don't want/need
- Treat Ted to an HKS exhaust (possibly)

General impressions are good. It's quite slow but feels fun anyway (that's what it's for, I suppose). I don't like the driving position in the standard seats; it's too high, but I'll get used to it. The straight pipes sound good over 4k but otherwise are a bit noisy. The gearbox feels good but the new clutch isn't quite bedded in and might need a little adjustment.

you can actually totally remove the lumbar foam insert pad, there's still enough padding in there and the seat will hug you much better

Great little motors, drove one of the first ones pre release in UK a long time ago and used to run one in the family.

Get a spring wire drain cleaner and clear the dirt from the drain channels either side of hood - we did this on my brother in laws mk2 and loads of water came out.

Mk1 are less prone to chassis rot than mk2 .

I'll give that a try, thanks. Yeah the vents are definitely an acquired taste but will certainly help shift some hot air from under the bonnet while the fans aren't working.

when are you getting the diff welded?

I might pick up a spare diff to get welded or one that's already welded. It's got a Torsen LSD. I'd like to keep that as is.

I had a 1.6 Eunos S Special for a time a few years back. The old 1.6s are great fun. They have a lovely metallicy exhaust note and love to be revved out. I could spank mine with my foot to the floor, rifling through the gearbox, engine screaming, then look at the speedo and only be doing 50mph! Ideal for maximium fun on British roads without fear of getting speeding points.

Gearshift is pure perfection and the interiors when standard are actually really elegant in their simplicity.

I would suggest also checking the drainage channels in the sills, as these will almost undoubdtedly be blocked. Piercing them will also remove any trapped water. My car 'sloshed' under heavy braking and acceleration until I did this!

Thanks man - yeah I ordered a trombone brush yesterday for the purpose of cleaning out the drainage channels. I might use it on the car, too

I can't wait to get out and do some b-roads

It's definitely slower than my Rev 2 was. I'm already daydreaming about dropping a beams in it or something that's never going to happen. I actually really like this engine. I just hope I haven't cooked it on the way home. It seems fine now but you never know. Today I feel all kinds of doubt creeping in.

Bank holiday Friday though. Time (hopefully) to get some work done on Ted.

New idea:

- Replace boot with one that hasn't been drilled for spoiler
- Replace bonnet with one that hasn't been cut into
- Replace front wings with ones that haven't been badly rolled
- Rattle can paint bumpers and rear quarters to match new panels

The car was originally classic red before the red mica that is on it currently so I'd probably go for that.

I picked up a black hard top today that is now soaking wet so I will fit that when I get a dry day.

I miss my MR2 but I'm also quite fond of this one
